"shit." the boys murmured. I just stood there like a lemon. Not saying anything. Why was this so important that I was Nat's brother. I wanted to break the silence.

"He didn't do it you know."

"Yeah, we know. Shit where are my manners. Bari, Ferg, Twelvy, Ant, Tyshaun and Nast" he pointed to each of them as he said their name. He started to pick up the cups and papers from the floor. The one Rakim identified as Ant spoke.

"What you know about Tevin?"

"Um, not much really." it was quiet for a second. Why did they all care so much about Tevin. Twelvy spoke.

"Who smoked all the fucking weed?" they all pointed at Tyshaun.

"It wasn't me." Rakim stopped clearing for a second to speak.

"Nigga you have to buy the next sack."

"Sure whatever." Ty looked young and not as High as the others. He was kind of cute but I couldn't really tell in the dim lighting.

"Mina you go to school?"

"Yeah, Anville High. No one likes me though."

"Hey I go there! I thought I'd seen you somewhere before, your like the only white girl in the whole school. Im sure you have at least one friend."

"That's me and no I don't everyone hates me because of Tevin."

"That's whack, you didn't kill him. I'll be your friend don't worry." he laughed.

"thanks" I laughed back. For the rest of the night we talked. Ty was really nice. He was caring and he was my age. I wondered why I had never seen him before. He was different. Everyone else was getting drunk and dancing like idiots except Rakim and Ty. Rakim slowly sipped his beer and stared into the wall. Occasionally he laughed with the others but I could tell something was wrong. After a while I drifted off to sleep.

I awoke encased in Tysahuns arms. His head on top of mine. I moved slightly to reach my phone. 37 missed calls from mom.

"Shit" I got up quickly causing Shaun and the rest of the group to wake up.

Rakim spoke, his voice croaky.

"Where you going?"

"Home, I have 37 missed calls from mom. She's going to be pissed I can tell." I started to unzip the hoody.

"Keep it, give it to me later." I smiled. Later? He wanted there to be a later?

"Thanks." I walked out the door and down the stairs. The sun has cooled down a lot and was now almost non existent. I ran across the road and all the way . I got my keys and before I could open the door it opened. Mom was stood there, she didn't look happy.

"WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN!"

"out."

"All night? And whose jumpers that? You've been at boys. You better not be pregnant." I pushed past her and put my coat on the rack. She grabbed my shoulder and slapped me. My eyes stung and started to water.

"Silly girl, why didn't you tell me? Now look what you made me do."

"Me? What did I do? You just slapped me. You don't care about me where were YOU last night?"

"I was working."

"DON'T LIE MOM. UNLESS YOU CALL SLEEPING WITH YOUR BOSS A JOB?" I could see her fists tense up. I had a feeling she was sleeping with her boss. She usually didn't come home when she finished work and she smelt of cigarettes and cheap cologne. We couldn't afford cigarettes. Plus I know for a fact she hated them.

"I was trying to get more hours. More hours equals more money for us."

"So prostitution then? If your sleeping with your boss for money your a prostitute." suddenly her clenched fist hit me in the face. Pain surged through my body and i found it hard to open my eye. I stepped back.

"I'm sorry baby, I'm sorry I didn't mean to." i marched to my bedroom and slammed the door. Bitch. I hated her. She didn't give a shit about me or Nat and part of me thinks she was glad when he got put away. I knelt down and pulled out a bag from under my bed. Opening the drawers and stuffing clothes in I decided I was going to run away. It didn't matter that i didn't know where I was headed.

"Anywhere but here, anywhere but here." I chanted under my breath whilst shoving my clothes away. Tears streaming down my face. I picked up the silver frame from the nightstand and removed the picture. I then walked over to my piggy bank and threw it on the floor, cracking it. I collected up the notes and coins and stored them away in my pocket. I'm surprised mom never took the money before. She's the sort of person who would steal from her children. Finally, I opened up my bedside drawer and took out the small metal box. Inside were things that helped me, made me feel stronger. Blades. I shoved the box into my bag. There, I was done, I was ready to go. I pushed the door open and walked out.

"Mina? Where are you going?"

"Anywhere but here mom."

"Why? I'm sorry baby!"

"Because you don't look after me properly. I'm at home up until 12 most nights waiting for you to come back. There hardly ever any food in the refrigerator and the gas bill hasn't been paid for almost nine months."

"I'm sorry, I'm turning my life around I promise." I rolled my eyes. She moved over next to me and touched my eye. I winced from the pain. And pulling my head away.

"You said that the last time mom and the time before that. I'll be back in a few weeks and any money I can get I'll send here. You just need time to sort yourself out and frankly I do too." she sobbed and shook her head. Why was I the grown up in this situation? I looked out the window to see Rakims friends walking out. They all had smiles on their faces and looked like they didn't have a care in the world. Why couldn't I be as happy as them?

I turned to face mom one last time and then I left. Now I had to think, where was I really going to go?
