The zig zagging lines on the table blur in front of my vision into a messy scrabble of inefficient shapes. There is a very logical sentence written in black marker claiming that the waitress service "sucked balls". Now that's offensive. How is it my damed fault if the coffee machine stops working? So techinically it was more like the coffee machine "sucked balls." And then there are dark splotches on the wood where counteless customers have spilled their coffee while texting. Cause that's oh so important, nevermid that you'll burn yourself if your coffee decides to fall to the south instead to the north. My eyes droop as the table blurs once again.
I should probably go to sleep. When was the last time I had slept again? I had had a two hour nap yesterday, but I think that was it. No wonder I was about to pass out face first onto my coffee. My hand lifts as I squint at the wrist watch there. It takes a while for me to realize that my eyes aren't focusing on the tiny thing. No matter. My shift still has at least an hour to go. God help me, if no one enters the god forsaken door soon I was gonna pass out, and would not be getting up for at least a good 12 hours. I move the coffee away, as a precaution lest I actually do face plant onto the table. Just a precaution.
"Excuse me, miss?" inquires a soft voice.
"Go away." I mutter unintelligibly.
"Do you work here?" the voice inquires again.
Why would I work here? I think hazily. I wouldn't be sleeping at a place where I worked! Not on my shift anyway! This guy might be some slacking git didn't mean that I was! I raise my head agitatedly to tell him as such,
"I don't know where you work, or if you even work, but where I work I don't go around sleeping during my own shift! How dare you disrupt my sleep and accuse me of such a thing! Slacking might be a habit yours but I DO NOT -" I stop mid breath.
I have just gotten a look at who I was actually talking to. He is tall, and I have to tilt my head slightly to look him in the eye. He has jeans on, fitting snugly around his legs, and a white logo tanktop with a plunging neckline. Its mid-winter, why is he even wearing a tank top? If it can be called that. Its more like scraps of cloth covering his chest. His built arms are bare making my throat dry and the hint of chest hair peeking from the neckline makes me catch my breath. I move my gaze upwards and I catch sight of his hair which is a light blonde with brown roots. It's messy and I can vouch the wind outside had something to do with that. I look into his eyes and blink in shock, they're an intense blue but right now they're shadowed over with humor. He grins and my attention focuses on his lips, they're distracting. He's distracting.
After I'm done gawking I also realize, I had indeed fallen asleep during my shift. A quick glance at my wristwatch, which zooms into focus very readily compared to before, tells me I still have 20 minutes left of work! And then I panic.
"Oh God! It is my shift!" I jump off the chair and quickly wipe my mouth, forever afraid of drool stains. Not that I drooled or anything. Just my luck! This sex bomb walks in and I probably have sleep breath, and red eyes, and quite probably drool stains on my chin! "Uh why don't you get yourself a table and i'll be right with you? Just take this table! I mean your already here, why walk to another table right? Actually sit wherever you want! I should apologize for sleeping. Not that I was sleeping I had just dozed a little. I didn't know - I didn't realize I was working! Well I knew obviously - I just didn't care. Sleep does that to people! But I swear i'm not a slacker! Not that that matters to you. Its my job. But I did say you were a slacker. Sorry about that. Didn't mean to accuse you or anything. I'm cranky when I wake up. But you already know that." I run out of breath and it takes me a moment to realize that the beautiful person is laughing. It's loud unfeigned laughter that makes my stomach clench. He really is beautiful.
