Stuffed Animals, Time Agents and In-Laws Part 1

River watched on lovingly as her husband played on the floor of the Tardis with their daughter, Lyla. They were playing with stuffed animals, specifically a giraffe and a lion. Lyla kept waving around her giraffe saying"da-da!" and then giggling when the doctor got frustrated insisting that he was not a giraffe, but that he could do a pretty good dance called the "drunk giraffe".
River was just about to join in when all of the sudden there was a knock on the door. She looked at the doctor to see if he knew who it was, but he shrugged his shoulders unknowingly and got up to look at the monitor. As soon as he saw who it was his face went blank. "Who is it?" River asked quickly becoming concerned. "No one" the doctor responded trying to ignore the face on the screen.
When the knocking became to much River went to open the door.
"DOCTO- hello there!" the man said, as he saw the woman who had opened the door.
The man who had just laid eyes on River was Captain Jack Harkness. "Don't even start" the Doctor said as soon as he detected a hung of a flirt in Jack's tone of voice. "What? I was just saying hello." Jack said innocently. "Just don't say hello, actually don't even talk to her". At this point River rolled her eyes, but decided not to say anything considering that the doctor was already quickly becoming irritated.
After getting yelled at by the doctor Jack realized that something was different. "Oh, a new face!, I must say I like this one better, although, the chin is a little big and the style is a little different"
"Oi! Bow ties are cool!" the doctor responded after being insulted yet again on his style.
" I agree with the Captain wholeheartedly!" River said drawing the attention back to her.
"And who are you?" Captain Jack asked ignoring the doctor's previous command of not talking to River.
" Professor River Song, the doctor's wife" River said proudly holding out her hand for Jack to kiss.
The captain was just about to kiss her hand, but when he heard the wife part quickly caught himself. "You got married!" The captain yelled letting go of River's hand and turning his attention back to the doctor. "Congratulations! What was I not invited to the wedding? I love weddings"
" One reason is because I know you love weddings and you tend to love them a little to much, and another reason is because it happened in a time that didn't really exist." When the doctor saw the look of confusion settle on Jack's face he decided on "basically a bunch of wibbly, wobbly, timey, wimey, stuff" as the best answer.
After making introductions Jack began to look around. "I love what you've done with the place it suits you. Why didn't you do this earli-" Jack was just about to finish his sentence when he stepped on a stuffed giraffe. " May I ask why there is a stuffed giraffe and lion lying in the middle of the console room"
About that...". Before the doctor could finish his sentence. Lyla peeked out from behind the console. "Doctor, is this your kid?", Jack asked when he saw the striking resemblance between the young toddler and River.
"Of course it's my kid! and this 'kid' has a name don't you, Lyla?" The doctor stated while scooping Lyla up in his arms, making her giggle. " Why would I have a random toddler in my Tardis?"
"Wow doctor! I must say you have surprised me. Who would have thought that you would be married and have a kid? She is adorable, congrats again!" "How old is she?"
"She is just about to turn one" River responded tired of being left out of he conversation. "Actually..." River decided to ignore the doctor, who was shaking his head behind Jack's shoulder. "We were just about to bring her to see her grandparents! Would you like to come?"
"Of course! I would love to meet the doctor's in-laws and this little cutie's grandparents!" Jack said while tickling Lyla, making her giggle again.
"Ok then, let's go see my parents, and we are not leaving the brakes on!" River said glancing at the doctor.
"But I like that sound!" the doctor whined sounding slightly like a five year old.
" Well both me and Lyla don't, so we win!"
"That's what you think" the doctor said smirking at River. "
"Of course that's what I think!" River said moving slightly closer to the doctor.
"We'll have to see about that" the doctor replied just about to kiss River, when Jack yelled from the corner of the room.
"Hey! Lovebirds! There are other people in the room!" "But I must say doctor, your flirting has gotten better!"
"It better have after one hundred years of marriage and a child!"
" And we have landed!" River said pulling one more lever.
"I didn't even hear or feel us move!" Jack said, very surprised that the Tardis was even capable of that.
"That's because we didn't leave the brakes on."
