Chapter 4 - Secrets of the past

I heard the danger signs, but i ignored them as i sat there with my dead father. I couldn't find a way to live after seeing him be killed. I closed my eyes and came to the conclusion that me dying would be better this way. What was the point in living on knowing i would be hunted by the same people who killed my father? Why not just get it over with now? Just screw it all.

*Static....Screeeeeech.....pssshhhhhh*

I opened my eyes to find the self destructing cyborg that was suppose to bring my death, only to be a dud. I dropped to the floor and began to break down in tears. Its just not fair! 

"Damn it all! Why did it have to be this way?" I screamed. 

I punched the floor and swore all in a rage of anger and sadness until i ran out of words to say and my right hand was bleeding. I just couldn't come to terms with what just happened. My dad saved my life, and I couldn't do the same in return. It should been me to be killed not him. I didn't have a purpose in living than just to life an easy, steady life. Why push it any further than the peaceful life i was use to? It really is not fair!

"Damn!

"Dr. Hatigashi. I have awakened as commanded." I heard a voice say. It's voice sounded disoriented and static, like it was trying to hide

"Who's there?" I yelled out loud.

"I am Project Fate's most successful alpha breed. Identification number 07011999." It said.

"Well tell then. Where are you?" I asked.

"I am not obligated to tell you that." It said.

The way this thing is talking it may be another cyborg sent by whoever killed dad. I have to cautious.

"Tell me, are you a friend or foe?" I asked.

"That all depends on who i am speaking to. Identify yourself." It said.

"My name is Renzu. Renzu Hatigashi." I said.

"Renzu.....Dr. Hatigashi's son? Where is Dr. Hatigashi?" It asked.

I looked over to my father. His pulse was long gone, and his body had already grown cold. I still couldn't believe that today was the time I would ever talk to him.

"Dr. Hatigashi....My father, he's dead." I said.

Suddenly I heard a static noise coming from the same direction of the person speaking.

"Renzu. Did Dr. Hatigashi give you anything of importance before his death? Something that can tell me my purpose in living?" It asked.

I thought about what my father gave me before he was killed. He told me to watch some video at all costs.

"Well he did give me some type of file that held a video i was suppose to see. But i never got a chance to watch it." I said.

I heard a loud static noise in my ear. I felt my pocket begin to grow hot. I reached inside and tossed out the box my father gave to me on the floor. The cube was small, enough to fit inside of your hand and it had a little weight. The box was designed with red glowing stripes that went around the box. It could feel myself grow nervous as it spoke to me. The voice had been cleared, it sounded like a female's voice.

"Show me the video." The box said.

I pulled out my phone and searched through my recent downloads for the file. After a moment of scrolling I found the video. Though I came across some complications.

"It says the file is corrupted." I said.

"Place your phone on the floor." It said.

I did exactly what it was told and placed it on the floor.

"Stand back." It said.

I took a few steps back as the box began to glow red again. I watched in awe as the box began to glow even brighter and separate itself into what seemed like a million tiny cubes. I moved back even further as the small group of cubes slowly swarmed around the phone.

"Hey what are you doing?" I asked.

All of the cubes entered the phone. The phone didn't budge and the room grew silent. Suddenly the phone screen shattered as all of the cubes floated from the phone.

"Hey that's my phone!" I said.

"Renzu. You must see this, it is a message for me and you." It said.

The cubes formed into a floating box that resembled the shape of a television screen. An image appeared from the screen, what i saw was my father. He was inside of a laboratory. He was wearing a lab coat and held the same cube that he gave me. I could feel myself begin to well up just looking at him. I remained quiet as he began to speak.

"Renzu. Happy Birthday." He said, waving at the camera. I watched as he adjusted his glasses and cleared his throat.

"It seems you have reached the age of 16, I remembered how i felt when i became 16....I hope i get to make it to your party, i know i have a bad history of constantly missing them. But that isn't what this video is entirely about." He said.

He walked behind the camera and increased the zoom onto the same cube he gave me.

"Renzu meet Project Alpha, she is your guardian angel. I personally made her myself with materials from a different planet. She is the only one of her kind to merge with anything and make it a weapon. However she alone does not hold this power." He said.

I stood shocked as the video continued. He zoomed the camera back out and moved back in front of the camera.

"If you been keeping up with daily trends regarding computers, which you've probably have, you would know that the nano-technology has played a big part in cyborg development all around the world." He said as held out the cube again.

"This is not from this world, at least the materials made to create this." He said.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing, just what was this "guardian angel" that he mentioned inside of the video? What is it's purpose and why do I need one?

I could feel my head slowly begin to swarm with thoughts as the video continued.

"Heed my warning when I say this Renzu, this is very dangerous. Do not show this to anyone, not even kuzu."

He set the cube onto a table behind him. He placed his right onto the top of it.

"This is how you activate it, it can only identify you through one way that is entirely unique to you. It needs a sample of your blood to enforce the bond between you and your guardian. It doesn't need a lot, a few drops outta do it. Now understand that once you do awaken it, you cannot reverse it. It will be your partner throughout your journeys in this earth until the day you die. Use it wisely." He said.

I still couldn't wrap my head around the whole thing just yet, but slowly everything began to make sense. I knew their was a reason to why he was acting that way during the party, and why he wanted me to see this video no matter what. It also explained why he couldn't speak about his job in public, and the reason we was attacked tonight. I collected mental notes of everything he explained about his line of work and the reason he gave me "project alpha" to begin with. He mentioned in the video it was to stop an organization called Fate. The world's most innovative company to ever be built under the grounds of nanotechnology. He didn't mention a reason why they needed to be stopped, but i had created my own personal reasons from whoever sent these cyborgs to kill my father.

I watched as he took off his lab coat and glasses and placed it on the table behind him. He grabbed the camera and held it in front of his face. He looked very tired, and he looked as if he had been holding himself back from saying something.

"Look here Renzu. I know i couldn't speak to you very much about your past, because it not how you think it came to be.You and Kuzu both, have something unique inside of you that will decide the future of this planet. I may not ever be able to tell it again." He wiped his eyes, i could see tears begin to well up.

"You're not human."
