After what happened yesterday with Connor and Riley I couldn't take chances with having them in the same room let alone the same building. Connor was right. Riley was going too far. I understand what Connor and I did is beyond wrong but you can't change the past.
It was 10 AM and I was on my way to the local Starbucks to pick up a coffees for Connor and I before I headed to his house. I walked in and noticed Riley sitting at a table in the back. He looked up at me and I quickly looked away pretending I didn't see him. I order our coffees and when I turned around to walk out the door I slammed right into Riley. Connor's peppermint mocha was now all over the floor.
"He doesn't need that." Riley said and grabbed my hand. I stepped over the spilled coffee and gave the worker a sorry look as Riley dragged me out.
"Riley let me go!"
"No." He said and opened the passenger door of his car for me. I climbed in with hesitation. What was he doing? He put the key in the ignition and sped out of the parking lot. The speed limit was 40 and he was hitting 70.
"Ri, slow down."
"Don't call me 'Ri' anymore!" He said with anger.
"Riley, slow down!" I said as we came around a sharp turn and almost going off the road. "Please, Riley!" I continued to scream but was interrupted by my phone buzzing. I looked at the speedomitor before answering my phone. Riley was now hitting 90 mph.
"Hello?" I said and heard Connor reply with a soft 'hi' on the other end.
"Where's my coffee?" He asked.
"On the floor at Starbucks....RILEY! SLOW THE HELL DOWN!" I yelled taking the phone away from my ear.
"Riley? Why are you with Riley?"
"Long story. Con, I have to go. Riley slow down!" I said and hung up. I placed my hand atop Riley's and his speed decreased down to 70 again. I squeezed Riley's hand a little, "Riley, please stop the car..." I said softly and he stepped on the break and pulled over on the side of the road.
"It hurts." was all he said.
"What?" I questioned.
"Seeing you with Connor."
"Riley..."
"No! I saw you guys the other day and you looked so happy. That's what made me angry. I understand that feelings change and sometimes you can't turn them off but I wanted you to have those happy feelings with me." Riley said with his head down playing with his thumbs, "Why was I such a bad boyfriend that you had to cheat on me?"
"Ri..Riley," I corrected myself, "You weren't necessarily a bad boyfriend. You just didn't give me everything I wanted and the spark disappeared after a while." I told him. He looked up at me. His eyes were glassed over.
"I still love you."
"Riley, you'll find someone else one day. I promise. You have to leave Connor alone, k?" He nodded.
"I don't hate Connor. I never did." He said looking up and straight out the windsheild. "He's my brother. I can't hate him."
"Then why did you say all those things and trash his room?"
"I was mad. Wouldn't you be mad, Al?" He asked me with a bit of a harsh tone. I looked out the window at the trees blowing in the wind next to us. I nodded my head and he just looked at me. "You could've atleast broken up with me first, yanno."
"I'm sorry, okay? What more do you want me to say. People make mistakes."
He didn't say anything. He put the car in drive and continued down the road to his house. We pulled in and Connor walked out the front door. His eyes were dark with anger and his lips were in a flat line across his face. I got out of the car quickly and walked up to him.
"Connor, wait." I said stepping in front of me. He pushed passed me and walked right up to Riley. His fist soared across Riley's cheek. He walked back to me, his eyes were locked on my wrist. He picked my arm up.
"Did he do this to you?" He asked holding up my bruised wrist.
"He didn't mean to Connor. Please, just calm down." Connor turned around to look at Riley who was still holding his face.
"Stay away from her. She's not your girlfriend anymore. Got it?" He said and put his arm over my shoulders and led me inside.
