GINGER'S VIEW

I left my favorite spot hours ago and headed home. My parents had travelled out to Texas and wouldn't be back for a month or two. They were going to oversee the pack in Houston. I had gotten the highlights of the meeting from Luke. Same old, same old. Be extra careful, humans first, watch leeches blah blah...I knew fully well what I was supposed to do. 

I wasn't tired but I didn't feel like leaving the comfort of my room to babysit a leech, but I had to. I went to my closet to pick out something to wear. I grabbed a pair of dark blue skinny-jeans and a light purple tank top and some black Vans. I put my hair in a bun, used some chapstick, grabbed my keys and headed out.

The evening was cool and inviting, I wanted to keep driving around but my neighbors would think I was crazy or disturbed. I pulled out my cell phone to clarify Chloe's address. I arrived at her doorstep in 10mins and I was welcomed by loud noise and rude people. 

"Yo Ginger!" Someone shouted. Some people turned, waved & smiled and I returned their gestures.

"Hey babe, you're late. You look great, as usual." A male voice said and I jumped in surprise. I knew who it was but what was he doing here?

"Rex, why are you here?" I turned around to face him. Rex Wade was my mate-to-be. He was tall, with silver-ish eyes, dark brown hair, muscular body and a very attractive face. He grinned at me and slung his arm over my shoulders.

"I'm overseeing that you do your job and that no one else here bothers you." He replied.

"I'm fine, I don't need your help or protection." 

"That's not what you said at school. Come on, lets go look for him." He told me and I sighed. He grabbed my hand firmly and led me through the crowd like a pro. We scanned the area for James but he wasn't in the living room at all. 

"You know, I would have expected you to have found him before I got here!" I shouted over the music.

"I wanted you to be here first, its not like he's lost. He's somewhere here. I saw him." He replied but this tall brunette walked up to him, trying flirt. And being Rex, he smiled and walked away with her to divert any suspicion. I shook my head and opened the door that led to Chloe's balcony. She was lucky her parents were away for the week, she would have been so screwed.

As I was about to step out onto the balcony I heard some faint murmuring.

"Relax.......close your eyes...."

I poked my head outside to find James holding some girl with his fangs to her neck, already drinking from her. I growled and he pulled away and grinned.

"Get away from her!" I warned and I was infront of him in a flash. I pulled the girl away from his grasp and she fell to the floor limply. I got on my knees to check for her pulse, it was there but it was very faint.

"We warned you not to touch the humans here! You've violated that twice!" I snarled at him.

"What? I was thirsty." He shrugged and smiled. I examined her neck and what I saw didn't disappoint me. She had tiny fang marks on her neck and she was very pale. I layed her down carefully and made sure she was away from James. She wasn't going to be awake for a while atleast she was going to be okay. I got up and punched James before he could side-step me. He growled and lunged at me, his eyes had changed color again. 

We crashed on the cool pavement and James threw a hard punch at my face but I kicked him off. He landed smoothly and tried to run towards the girl but I stuck my foot out. He tripped and cleaned the floor with his face.
