Chapter 7://: To Be Or Not To Be

Asher's POV

I was almost knocked over as someone ran past me screaming, "Melanie! Kyle!" They slammed into me, toppling over onto their butt because...well, I'm a football player. What can I say?

I grinned as I saw it was D and she apologized profusely, blushing like crazy. "I-I'm so sorry, Asher! I wasn't watching where I was going!"

"That's alright, little lady," I chuckled, pulling her up so we were only inches apart. "How might I help you? Prince Charming at your service."

"More like the dragon," she muttered, rolling her eyes. "It's nothing. Nothing you'd be interested in anyway." She started trying to get around me again when I grabbed her arm, stopping her. "What's that supposed to mean?" I raised an eyebrow. "You didn't even tell me what it was about before you went assuming."

She sighed. "The cast list! Miss Shannon posted it this morning! I have to see!"

"Woah," I stopped her. "What is a cast list? Is that some sort of line for people to sign someone's cast?" She rolled her eyes. "No! Ugh! Just come with me!" She rolled her eyes again and I chuckled. "You know, if you keep rolling your eyes, they just might pop out."

"You sound like my mother."

"Maybe not your mother," I winked. "But I can certainly be your Daddy."

She groaned. "Asher! That is so nasty! I knew you were dirty, but not that dirty!" I chuckled. "You'll learn to love it." I licked my lips and her cheeks turned a bright scarlet, making her pale skin glow. "Whatever!"

She pulled me down the hallway until we were outside the auditorium, a place I'd truthfully never been into.

"Ky! Mel!" She abandoned me as she ran over to a guy and a girl, hugging both of them. "Have you read it yet?"
They shook their heads and 'Ky' spoke. "No. We were waiting for you."

She finally seemed to remember I was there when her friend 'Mel' sent her eye signals. "Oh. This is Asher. These are my friends Melanie and Kyle." I nodded a hello and smiled. "He's cute," I heard Melanie whisper loudly, making me chuckle. "Shut up!" D hissed.

"Let's just check the list," Kyle rolled his eyes and motioned to Melanie.

Melanie immediately started looking at the paper and turned to them with an excited grin. "Guys...You got in! You got the parts you wanted!"

They started screaming and jumping around when I suddenly pulled D off to the side. "Um...got into what, exactly?"

"Theatre is performing The Tempest!" She grinned. "I'm Ariel and Kyle is Caliban! Isn't it great?" I opened and close my mouth, chuckling nervously. "Yeah, just I don't know what that is."

She dead-panned and crossed her arms. "You don't know what The Tempest is?" I shook my head no and she face palmed.

"It's only the last play ever written by the great, William Shakespeare!" She exclaimed dramatically, a far-off look in her eyes. "Oh, yeah. Shakespeare." She took in a deep breath. "Please tell me you know who Shakespeare is."

I glared. "I've heard of him. I've just never really seen his work before." She bit her lip, then started grinning. "Well, maybe you could come see our play?"

I noticed Kyle giving me an approving nod and Melanie stood behind D, practically screaming from excitement and giving me a thumbs up. "Sure," I shrugged. "That is, if you guys are any good."

Kyle and D crossed their arms simultaneously. "Excuse you?"

I looked down and bit my lip with a small smile. "Are you any good?" Melanie glared up at me, almost eye-level since she was taller than D. "They're both amazing, for your information. Thank you very much."
