~Chapter 4~
The rest of the day drags on as usual. I'm nearly asleep in 7th period Physics when the crackling of the intercom comes on.
"Good afternoon, students," the principle, Mr. Karl, announces. "As you know, homecoming is this Saturday at 8PM, so be sure to get your tickets either before or after school this week. Don't forget to vote for this years homecoming king and queen. This years theme will be a masquerade, so be creative with your masks! The last day to get the tickets will be Friday, so don't forget! And also the Homecoming parade will be on Friday at 3 o'clock sharp. Be there to show school pride! Have a good afternoon and stay safe." With that the click if the intercom goes off.
As soon as he goes off, all the girls burst out talking to each other, excited about dress shopping and what not.
"Omigosh, I saw the cutest dress at Deb's the other day at the mall..."
"Yeah, I told him if he went I'd lose it to him..."
"It's gonna be our 2 month anniversary...."
"Does anyone have any condoms?"
The final bell finally rings and everyone shuffles out of the classroom. I head to my locker and gather my homework up for tonight.
"Hey," Kyle comes up from behind me. I give him a nod to signal I know he's there. "You gonna go the Homecoming?"
"Why? Are you asking me out?" I tease him.
"Pshhh, you wish,"
"No, I'm not going," I say. Honestly, I don't wanna go. Being single and gay? Watching other couples make-out in front of you? No thanks.
"Awww, c'mon!" He urges. "It'll be fun!".
"I'll think about it, kay?" I say, just to shut him up. I close my locker and we head down the hallway and to his car.

Work has been dragging on the past 2 hours and its been really slow. It's 4:45, which means business should pick up for dinner at around 5.
My dad owned this restaurant up until he died. Then, Nancy owned it and redecorated the whole place, putting tacky pink wallpaper over the old green one.
"Party of five in your section," Elle notifies, interrupting my studying.
I put on my apron and grab a notepad and pen and walk over to my table. I recognize the people sitting down. They're the popular preps who made fun of me in middle school. Now, they just ignore me.
Mackenzie, Hannah, the blonde that I saw with Jack earlier, and Morgan are all chatting away while the jocks, Drew and AJ are talking about sports.
"What can I get you guys?" I ask for the tenth time today.
Hannah, the blonde, looks down at her menu and makes disgusted faces while reading. "Um, what can I have that has no sugar, no carbs, and that's fat free?" She asks.
I blink at her, dumbfounded. You're at a restaurant, full of burgers, grease, and oil. What else are you expecting?
"Excuse me, she asked a question. Answer it." Snaps Drew.
"Water," I say, refraining myself from adding a "dumb skank".
"Oh sure, I'll have that!" She exclaims like its the best idea ever. Ugh, blondes....
After taking their orders I head back to my previous spot and continue to study for my upcoming Chemistry test.
"Yo, Jack! Over here!" One if the jocks from my table yells over at the front door. I look up and see Jack Lyons head towards the preps' table.
"Nathan, new costumer with your table," Elle informs me.
I plead with her with my eyes. "Can you take it?" I ask desperately. "I don't wanna look like a klutz again in front if him again!"
"Again?" She raises her eyebrow.
I tell her what happened this morning with the drink, the wetness, the jacket, and the part where I looked like a mute person.
She squealed and I quickly placed my hand over her mouth.
"SHUSH!" I commanded and dropped my hand.
"I'm sorry, Nathan, but that's just too cute! He gave you his jacket! You too would make such a cute couple!" She practically yells.
People in the diner are starting to stare, which makes me start to go red. Even Jack's table is starting to stare over at us.
"Please, cover for me just this once!" I beg her.
She shakes her head. "Sorry, bud, but it's time for you to man up! YOU GET'CHA MAN, BOO!" She says ghettoly and pushes me towards the table.
I clumsily stumble over to the table, where they're talking about the Homecoming game.
"Yeah, the Grizzlies have nothing on us. We beat them twice last season," one of the jocks say. All of them mumble in agreement.
I awkwardly stand there until they stopped talking. "Can I get you something to drink?" I turn to Jack.
"Just a Rootbeer," he replies.
"I'll get that right to ya," I say and quickly turn on my heels.
"Hey," he shouts after me.
I turn back around. "Hmm?".
"Keep the jacket, it's too small for me anyways," he tells me, then goes back to talking with his friends.
I hide a smile as I turn back around, only to collide with an incoming waitress who has a big tray of food and drinks. I'm on the floor with all of it, grease and all, on my clothes and in my hair. Awesome; can this day get any worse?
Apparently, it can. I hear laughing from my table. Drew, Hannah, AJ, Mackenzie, and Morgan are all laughing and pointing.
"Omigod, whatta klutz!" Morgan laughs.
"Aren't waiters supposed to be like, good at walking?" Hannah says., confused. Oi vae...
"C'mon guys, lets go," Drew says as they all stand up and walk over me, all except for Jack, who stands up and helps me pick everything up.
"Thanks," I mumble, fighting tears of embarrassment and humiliation.
"Don't mention it," he says as he stands up and puts everything on a tray. He hands me a 5 dollar bill and helps me up before walking out of the diner.
