Innocence

Whispers. It was so common to hear them that by now both Sean and Mia ignored them, acted as if the whispers weren't even there. But they were and those whispers were about them.

People didn't seem to understand how the mayor's sweet innocent daughter had ended up with the mechanic's troublemaker of a son, nobody understood why innocent little Mia Hendrix was so madly in love with the biggest asshole at Riverdale High School Sean O'Ryley. Or why Sean wasn't a complete asshole to the small girl who wore his hoodies almost daily. It was a complete mystery to everyone, it would always be a complete mystery to everyone.

Of course Sean knew that if they ever found out about Mia's personality behind closed doors, they'd all change their minds. If they knew that once they shut the door to Sean's bedroom every single day after school innocent little Mia wasn't so innocent anymore, they'd understand. They'd understand why Sean always gave Mia his hoodies to cover up her collarbone which was littered with lovebites daily, they'd finally stop the rumors of Sean physically harming Mia because of the finger shaped bruises on her hips or legs that actually got there from Sean holding her too hard while she moaned his name underneath him. They'd understand why Sean was in love with the innocent girl who left his back scratched up almost daily while whispering I love you over and over into his ear as he pushed himself into her over and over. They'd understand that they weren't so different.

If they knew how fast Mia's heart went when she was with Sean or how Sean was a completely different person with his Mia, they'd understand. They'd understand that the mayor's daughter fell in love with the mechanic's son because he taught her how to live her life, he taught her how to enjoy what she was given, he taught her love.

So they could whisper all they wanted, but they didn't know that the hearts of those two kids beat for each other and would continue to do so until their last breathe.
