School was school. Jace kept his promise though, and didn't tell anyone. Nobody seemed suspicious, and things went on as normal.

Except today.

"Hey, did you know there's a new kid in school?" Hannah leans in eagerly to tell us during lunch.

I did, actually. So many girls in my homeroom were talking about him. I guess he's good looking, because why else would all these girls be reapplying make up and adjusting their clothes? It's not like he's in our homeroom, so why even bother?

"Yeah, Owen. He's in History with me, actually, he sits next to me." Brooke carelessly mentions, picking up a French fry from her tray. We have pretty bad food in our caf, which is why I'm not surprised why she winces after each bite. My old school had good food. Like, really good food. There was pizza and chicken wings and all sorts of meaty stuff. I usually ate the house salads. I'm not one of those anorexic people, I just don't want to stuff myself on fatty foods that aren't that healthy. Do you know how many calories are there?

Okay, so I may be a little bit of a health freak.

Anyways, back to Owen.

Hannah gasps. Like, legitimately gasps. "How could you not tell us earlier? That guy is hot!" She exclaims, offhandedly looking at Landon to see his reaction. To her disappointment, he's not even listening and is talking to Blake about the 49ers game from the other night. I don't cheer for any team,  but even I know that I live in San Fransisco, and our team is the 49ers.

"Eh." Brooke snorts, going back to popping French fries in her mouth.

"Wait, wait, wait. Did I just hear that right? Someone actually had the nerve to sit next to Brooke?" Christie gasps, and Brooke glares at her.

Brooke isn't one of those people who only wear black and look depressed all the time, she just looks dangerous at times, and everyone's scared of her but us. So the fact that someone actually sat next to her was pretty cool.

"There was exactly one seat left. I don't think he had much of a choice." Brooke dully explains. "It's not that big of a deal! Why are you treating it like the worlds about to end?"

Brooke isn't trying to be mean, in case you're wondering. She's usually like this, but we don't mind. At least she's telling her opinion.

"It's just that we don't get new kids that often! And they're never that hot!" Hannah sighs while looking at Landon. Why do I feel like she's trying to make him jealous?

"Hey!" I shriek indignantly. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?"

"Oh, sorry, I forgot you were new! You fit in so well it seems like I've known you as long as everyone else." Hannah apologizes.

"What about being new?" Camden pulls off his headphones. He always listens to music during class, and if he didn't want to earn enough money for him and the rest of his family who needs it, he would want to be a DJ. I've seen him do demos, and they're always amazing. Too bad he's so selfless and cares so much about everyone else. Right now I can hear the faint beat of 'Alone Together' by Fall Out Boy going through his headphones. Those headphones are his most prized possession.

"We were talking about the new kid. I was saying how there's not that many new kids and how interesting it was!" Hannah chirps.

"And I was saying that I was new." I deadpan.

Brooke stifles her laughter.
