Jane knew better than to be walking by herself at night, but sometimes she needed to get away from her always crowded house and overbearing family. Besides, it was a safe neighborhood, if you could consider a few houses and farms in the same general vicinity a neighborhood. There was not a soul around, or even a car approaching, when Jane entered the small cemetery that marked exactly one mile from her house. It was a good place to sit and rest a moment before turning around and starting home. She was nearly to her favorite grave, a large one near the back, when she saw a dark figure coming towards her. As it came closer, she could see that it was a man in dressed in all black.

"Good evening." He greated her in a low drawl.

"Hello." Jane responded politely. She changed her direction slightly so she was now headed back to the road, rather than toward the strange man. Jane was not fond of strangers, especially not ones she came across in such a creepy environment.

"What is a lovely girl like you doing here?" He called after her in his deep, handsome voice.

"N-nothing." She replied, and stared walking faster.

She was almost back to the road when suddenly he grabbed her arm and spun her around to face him. "Why are you in such a hurry? Stay and play with me for a bit." He laughed.

Jane was crying now. "Let me go." she yelled.

"No, I don't think I will. Its not often I come across a pretty little girl like you. I think I'll keep you around, for a little while." He smiled, and Jane caught a glimpse the fangs that soon bit down on her neck. She screamed as venom began to poison her blood.

Suddenly, his fangs were ripped out of her, and another scream was heard. This time it was the vampire's turn to shriek in agony, and the last thing Jane saw before blacking out was the tip of a wooden stake protruding from his chest.

In her semi-conscious state, Jane felt herself being lifted by strong arms. "It's alright, your going to be alright." The owner of the arms murmured to her in a comforting voice. "I'm going to help you, your  safe now." His reassuring words helped to calm Jane, but the vampire's venom was still burning through her like a fire. It hurt too badly to scream any more, so she lay in his arms as still as possible, as the tears continued to stream down her face. She felt herself be gently placed in the back of a car. It was soon stared up, and then they began speeding down the road. Jane soon lost the last bit of conciseness she had, and slipped into the burning blackness that was trying to consume her.

When the pain suddenly stopped, Jane opened her eyes to find herself laying on the alter of and old, extravagant cathedral. There were about half a dozen people in the room with her. Most of them were kneeling on the floor around her, and they looked like they were praying. The only one not kneeling was standing right above her. She was an older women, and she was definitely praying. She was also waving a crucifix above Jane and splashing water, presumably the holy kind, on her.

Jane screamed for the second time that night, and suddenly all eyes were on her. All praying stopped, and the old women slowly stepped away as Jane sat up. A young man stood up from among the people praying and came to sit beside Jane. "Hello." he greeted her. "Whats your name?" Jane didn't answer, and after a moment he continued. "My name is Eleazar, you can call me Eli." Still no reply came from Jane. Eli stood and held out his hand "Come with me, I can explain everything that happened to you tonight. You don't have to be afraid."

"Are you the one who saved me?" Jane asked befor taking his hand.

"Yes, I am. You can trust me." He promised her as he helped to her feet. "I'm here to help. I'll tell you everything you need to know about what you are now."

"What am I now?" Jane questioned him in an alarmed voice.

"Your a Dhampier. Half human, half vampire.
