CHAPTER 2
I took all the books home. I am not sure if I can read all those but they still all sat quietly on the backseat of my car. I felt my stomach rumbling as I drive. I glanced at the digital clock on my dashboard. 10:30 PM, the green digits smiled at me. Great. Now I know why my stomach was reacting this way.
I was terribly hungry, so hungry that I can’t concentrate that much on driving. But I tried to focus through the sick whining of my stomach. I tried to fight it and just when I was about to win I saw something on the road…not something but rather someone.
I instantly hit the brakes and tried to avoid it. The tires screeched and I did my best to control the wheel. I almost lost control of my car. When I stopped, I hurriedly turned my head back to the road. My heart was racing as I hear every rapid beat drumming in my ears. I did not want to kill anyone. I did not want to be branded as a reckless driver.
I looked around. No one was there. Not only did I not hit anyone, but also it didn’t seem like any one was there. A few vehicles passed by, their headlights illuminating the street and vanishing. Some stopped and asked me what was going on. I just smiled at them and said I was okay. No one was nosy enough to bother me, I looked alright anyway.
When my heart stabled, I went back on the road. I thought I was just hungry.
I arrived home and ate supper. I started reading those books. It would be quite a waste if I did not read any of them. From them I found out quite some interesting things about Tebang and her pet Simetra.
Simetra was the one who can travel through time and although Tebang cannot, he still was not to be underestimated. Tebang was a conjurer and the master of illusions. Throughout history Tebang had played very important roles in the background. Destiny was his friend. He could manipulate anyone under his will without the victim even realizing it.
I had also learned that Simetra could turn into a beast or into a human whenever needed. She had played various roles in the past that helped Tebang in whatever scheme he had.
I did not care about Tebang at that point. The books said that Simetra’s smile alone had made kings and rulers gave up their gold and kingdoms. Great men worshipped her human form and feared her beastly ire. Although it was said that everything she did were under Tebang’s orders, she was still considered a great seductress that brought prosperity as well as doom.
Simetra must be one hell of a babe.
I did not find a single photo of the two although I already knew what Tebang looked like. Unfortunately, in all of my encounters with him I had not caught a glimpse of his pet and I wondered why. Tebang and Simetra's origins were unknown as well as their whereabouts. I did not care where they are since I didn’t want to find them anyway.
The night grew deeper and even before I knew it I fell asleep.
"Nasa huli LAGI ang pagsisi kaya naman 'wag mo nang gawin ang alam mong pagsisihan mo."
I woke up, eyes opening wide. I felt my chest heaving as I noticed my right hand extending in front of me, grasping something that I could not hold.
I dreamt of her once more, the girl in the mountains. I sat up and felt guilt as I recalled my memory bitterly. Poor girl. I knew what I did was foolish. I was having a lot of problems that time and I was drinking alone. I did not know what I was doing back then. If only I could see her once more I would apologize. Although she tempted me it was not right for me to do such things.
But as long as I do not see her again it would be useless to say these things.
With that thought in my mind I sighed in defeat, I stood up and prepared myself for the day to come.
