EPILOGUE
Behind the bushes and hidden deep in the forest was a small patch of grass where Simetra rested. I hid my presence as I stared at Simetra for a while. Her four legs were bent as she lied on the grassy floor. I watched her as she looked afar; her eyes focused on something that I could not see. She was listening intently, feeling her surroundings as she rested that even the tiniest of sound would make her head jerk up. As I looked closer I noticed how her legs were ready to spring and run away at the first sign of danger. She was dead silent but as alert as ever.
I glanced inside her mind.
Men are evil. No one can be trusted. Only trust master. Master hates Simetra. Simetra is disgusting. Painful. Suffocating. Men are evil. Disgusting. Vile creatures. Master loathes Simetra. This is all Simetra’s fault. Simetra is a fool. Hate. Disgusting Simetra. Master is so great. I love Master. Master hates Simetra. I should die. Master will be sad. Simetra doesn’t want Master sad. Simetra caused sadness to Master. I hate Simetra.
I pulled away with a shaking breath. I clutched my chest and bowed a bit. I could barely breathe. I looked at Simetra and she was as still as a doll. Her thoughts haunted me and yet she stayed perfectly still as if she was fine.
I didn’t realize it at first but the whole thing had caused a deeper scar to my pet. The days that I had been away had caused the incident to sink deeper and deeper inside her heart.
I glanced at the jar in my hand. Could such a thing remove the pain that man caused my pet? Could everything go back to the way they were?
I flew away heading towards the lake. When I gained a significant amount of distance, I revealed my presence to her and she instantly felt me. She quickly stood up and ran towards my direction. I flew down and ran on foot. She easily caught up and in a few seconds she was running abreast.
For a quick second I wanted to jump and ride on her smooth back but I knew it was not the time yet. Her coat shined with the streaks of sunlight passing on her back as she ran. Her long beast ears went flat and steadied as they let the air glide along her head. Her tail whipped behind her balancing her nimble body through the uneven forest as she jumped and ran. She knew exactly where we were going and as soon as she realized it her strong legs kicked and went ahead of me. I gave up on running by foot and started to hover, I collected my cloak as it pressed closer to my body. I sped as I sliced through the air.
Simetra arrived at the lake first beating me by a few seconds. I watched her as she jumped around in glee. She felt a whole lot better now than when she was inside the forest a minute ago. She really enjoyed our short race and felt that she had never dashed that fast for a long time. If only her beast form could pull a smile I bet I would be seeing the biggest and sweetest smile she could give for me. She had missed me that much.
"Prepare yourself for the cleansing. Go to the lake now my dear." I said as I showed her a jar kept underneath my cloak.
Simetra walked slowly towards the jar. She hesitated between each step and looked at the jar with fear and curiosity mixed in her large shiny black eyes. Her nose came an inch closer and carefully sniffed the jar. Her head turned slightly to me followed by her eyes.
“Yes, my dear. This was your predator. He is dead.”
Her eyes sparkled at the last word.
“Go now Simetra… into the water.” I said as gentle as possible.
She walked towards the water and continued as she went deeper into the lake. Her forelegs stretched and sliced the crystal water, she stretched further and gradually it turned into human hands. She continued to descend and stretched her limbs behind her and slowly they too turned into a pair of long silky human legs. She continued diving beneath the lake. She resurfaced flipping her long light-colored hair as she had completely turned into a maiden.
She stood up from where she was water ran down her body until they scattered on the river that went up to her waist. Her bosoms heaved as she breathed with her eyes focused only at me.
I stood on top of a smooth flat rock that rose higher above all the other at the edge of the lake. I showed the jar and looked at her.
“Come.” I called with a small smile on my lips.
Simetra gracefully swam towards me kneeling at the shallow water around her. She bowed low and anticipated my every move.
The jar’s lid suddenly disappeared as the bloody smell wafted through the air. I was overwhelmed with the stench of his blood. Simetra clenched her fist in front of her chest as she tried to contain her anguish, excitement and ferocity. The smell of the blood tickled her but she knew that the man who once owned it was already dead. She should not let these emotions play inside her heart.
"Now… now… hold still." I said.
I tipped the jar and the blood flowed out. It travelled in mid-air; a deep red satin cloth unraveling itself. Finally it landed on her head and continued to flow down to her face.
All the memories of her predator were removed from her mind as the blood flowed through her hair staining it red. The sight she saw that day was removed from her sight as the blood traveled from her eyes and around her cheeks. All the smell of the putrid man was forgotten as well as the forced kisses on her lips. The scars and bruises that were left there by that infidel were washed away with his very own death. Her shoulders relaxed and her heart calmed down as the blood coursed from her shoulders to her navel. It went further down and the scar of his intrusion closed. The blood finally reached the water and it dispersed… vanishing without another sound.
Gerard Paer. His memories, his life, his existence all vanished along with the blood that mixed with the clear water of the lake and with a small ripple he was completely erased.
My ear quivered slightly and for a moment I swore I had heard a scream enveloped in his voice. But that was nothing for the man was already gone.
With the last drips of blood Simetra finally recovered and went back to normal. She swam away from me and plunged into the water removing all the blood from her body.
I sat at the edge of the lake and watched as the sun played on the water’s surface. From there Simetra surfaced and hurriedly swam towards me.
I waited for her with my arms wide open.
Two slender arms enveloped me as I finally felt the warm of her chest on my cheeks once more. I smiled. She gently stroked my back and the smile grew larger.
I was home.
I had never thought how painful it was to miss being hugged. The warmth of her pure love for me was something I longed for in every second we were apart. I loved my pet with every speck of my being and I knew she loved me all the same.
There I vowed that I would never let another man touch her again.
