A long time ago, there was a place that kept these creatures called the Marked Ones. The Marked Ones were what some would call monsters, but others heroes. These creatures were to protect all the realms and all of the planets from their one true enemy... The Undead Souls, they discovered something that the Marked Ones vowed never to harm... Mortal's Blood. The Marked Ones were what we would call vampires, but they don't prefer that name. The Undead Souls all began with one person, Thomas Jackson, at the time, he was the Marked Ones leader, they lived on a planet far from earth, but close enough to guard it, for earth was so valuable and rich and everybody wanted to get their hands on it. In the town I live, there was a myth that a Marked One came down to earth and bore a child with a Mortal. Of course no one believes that story, but every 12th of October, the ones that do believe the myth, gather together a sacrifice for the Marked Ones, so that good fortune and peace will come to us. Back then I thought that all of this was just a bunch of crap, but somehow he made it clear for me to see, but I am getting ahead of myself. It all began at Damascus High, it contained the people from little old Damascus. Damascus is a small town full of all of the same people. My mom always told me, if you can get out, then get out, but if you can't, then you're stuck here. I didn't want to be stuck in Damascus! "Katherine Helms, get out of bed, you are going to be late for school!" yelled Marie from down stairs. Marie was a middle-aged Spanish woman who was just trying to do her best for her family and she was doing that by being our maid, but I felt as if she was more a parent that my own parents were, my parents were never around, but Marie is. "I'm coming Marie!" I yelled back. When I went down stairs, Jessie and Lizzy were already eating their breakfast. Jessie and Lizzy weren't my siblings, I was only child, and they were Marie's children. The deal with my parents was Marie would be our maid, if I would take them to school, lucky for me their school was right down the road from mine. Marie got her children ready to go for school. "Bye Madre." Jessie and Lizzy said in unison. "Good bye my sweet little angels have a good day at school." Marie said bending down to her children. They hugged her and of course they cried for it was their first year in school. "Go out to the car, it's unlocked." I told them as they ran out the door. "Bye Madre." I tell Marie. "You know you can't call me that senora Helms." She said wiping her eyes from the tears. I groaned. "Why you are more of a parent than mine are." I said raising my voice. "I feel like they don't even care for me." I say quietly. Marie embraces me in a hug. "Your parents love senora, I promise. Now go my baby, have a good day at school." She shooed me out the door and waved to her children as I backed out of the driveway. As soon as I dropped the kids off, I went to my school, for it was waiting for me. As I pulled into the student parking, my little gang banged on my old truck and yelled crazy words. My gang was always there for me. "Girl, you need a paint job." laughed Donnie. I shoved him playfully. "Hey, don't damage my boyfriend." laughed Mattie. Mattie and Donnie have been together for 3 years now. Nobody would have ever guessed Mattie was gay he was always the guy who was into sports and stuff, so it kind of was a surprise to us, but of course we didn't mind, he was our friend and we loved him no matter what. Leslie then pulled into the parking spot next to mine. "Our last member has arrived!" yelled Donnie. Leslie then ran over and we all hugged each other. "Hell awaits." Leslie motioned to our school. "It can't be that bad, I mean it's our senior year!" Mattie said trying to lighten the mood. The bell then rang signaling that classes were going to begin. "Meet up at the table?" I asked. "Yeah see you guys at lunch!" yelled Leslie, who was already down the hall. "Bye!" we yelled as we went our separate ways.
