Chapter Four
I turned back around in my seat and thought to myself, “No. This cannot be happening right now…” I turned back around, facing the woman standing in the doorway. SHE’S the woman that said her husband beats those kids? I’d like to lay a hand on her myself.
“Ms. Thomas, we’re pleased to see you’ve finally arrived. We’ve been waiting. Please come up here, to your podium.”
“Sorry. I was at the child services building filling out restraining order papers.” She looked over at her husband, with the most disgusted look on her face, and stuck her nose up. “You have GOT to be kidding me, right?” I said to myself.
“Okay, Susan. I need proof this time. We can’t just keep locking Jason up because you say he beats you and the kids.” Judge Milian said. “Oh I can give you proof.” She turned around, and lifted up her shirt, revealing a huge bruise on her back. Putting her shirt down, she says, “Here, I have pictures of the kids too.” The guard came over to Susan’s podium and took the pictures, looking scared for his life.
Judge Milian took one look at the pictures, threw them, stood up, and turned to Jason. “You did this to those innocent kids?! You deserve to be locked up for the rest of your life!” She screamed. Jason lost it, slumped in his chair and started balling. His attorney tried to say something, but was interrupted by the judge. “He’s getting locked up for good this time! He’s going back to prision!” I felt so bad. I hardly know him, but I trust him. Only three people in this room know the truth. Jason, Susan, and I. But will the truth be spoken? Or will Jason be locked up for good?
