Chapter Six

I entered the little gate, and walked to my left, over to where Jason and his attorney stood. I looked at the attorney and said “Thanks. I can take it from here.”

I looked down at Jason sitting on the bench and sighed. Here we go. “Hello your honor. I ask you one thing and one thing only. Let me finish talking before you ask any questions. Deal?” She shook her head yes. “Alright then. I was waiting in the waiting room for my trial number to be called, and noticed a man sitting alone in the corner of the room, Jason. I walked over and started talking to him, asking him why he looked so sad, and what happened for him to get in this situation.” I looked over at his wife, and rolled my eyes. She was leaning on her right leg, away from me, picking at her nail polish. She seen I was looking at her, looked at me, and gave me the dirtiest look. I smiled.

“Anyways. On with it. I asked him what had happened. Told him that I would tell him why I was here if he did the same. We agreed. He told me he’s in court for the third time today because his wife,” I looked over at her and smiled. “Mrs. Thomas, was saying he beat his kids. I would like to come to a point and say that I have only met Mr. Thomas today, but I fully trust him. I can give you proof that she is lying. Mr. Thomas had told me, Mrs. Thomas put bruises on her kids, and herself. Making it look like Jason did it. If Jason has been locked up for 9 months, how would Ms. Susan Thomas still have bruises on her back? You’re probably thinking I’m crazy right now, but you need to listen to me. There are three people in this room that know for a fact that I, Sadie Mae Thomas, am telling only the truth and the real truth.” I slammed my right palm down on the bible at my podium and smiled at the judge.
