Chapter Three
“Yes, Ms. Thomas, but just because you need a new pair of shoes, doesn’t mean you can just steal them.” Surprisingly, she was being really nice about the whole situation. I thought I’d come in here, and get screamed at.
“I know, I understand, now. I’m sorry, Mr. Johnson..” I was sincerely sorry. I just needed a new pair of shoes.. I didn’t want to get made fun of again at school this year for not having new things. I thought if I had new shoes, I wouldn’t get made fun of anymore…
“I’m sure Mr. Johnson takes your apologies, but you will still owe Mr. Johnson the money, or the shoes.” Just great.. I don’t have the money to pay him back, but I NEED these shoes..
“In ruling of the plaintiff, Ms. Thomas owes Mr. Johnson the price of the shoes, $250.98. Case dismissed.”
Walking down the isle, out of the court room, I snuck a seat in the back row, waiting for the man I saw in the waiting room’s number to be called.
Then I hear the announcer, a lot louder this time. Before he starts speaking, he sighs loudly. “Mr. Jason Thomas, trial number 401. Please come on it.” Wait a minute… he has the same last name as me… We have the same last name, and he looks really familiar.. this is weird. I see him walking in, about five guards walking with him. His head is hanging, and he looks paler than before. He takes his seat behind his podium, while a lady in a green blazer and a black pencil skirt stands at the podium. His attorney, I guessed. Then the court room doors burst open. Everyone turns around to look, and I couldn’t believe what I saw with my Own. Two. Eyes.
