The weeks passed quickly and both Emily and Parker knew they had never been happier. Parker was relieved to see that every day Emily became more and more relaxed and laid back. She no longer panicked if the house wasn't spotless when he came in from work or if dinner wasn't ready.
Ed was at their house every morning when Emily left for work so he could spend the day with his grandson. He was more proud than Parker had ever seen him and already carried a picture of Wyatt in his wallet to show off to anyone who would stand still long enough for him to pull it out.
Two months after Emily had moved in with Parker and the weather was finally starting to become more spring like. Parker woke up one Saturday morning to find that he was alone in bed.
He groaned and threw the covers off of himself. He had never been much of a morning person. He could smell bacon frying in the kitchen. He could hear cartoons playing on the tv and the familiar sound of the baby swing.
It was still hard for him to believe that his life had turned out this way. That little boy in there that he could hear cooing and squealing at his favorite cartoon was officially his son and that woman cooking breakfast was his girlfriend… Parker shook his head at that thought. Girlfriend just didn't seem like a good word to describe Emily. He stood and opened his dresser door, digging under the many pairs of boxers and socks to find the small velvet box. He opened it and the tiny diamond sparkled.
If she would accept him then someday very soon he would be calling her his wife. He put the box back in the drawer and shut it.
Parker walked out to the kitchen. Emily had her back to him and didn't hear him as he walked up behind her. She had her long blond hair up in a messy ponytail… She was wearing a black tank top and a pair of plaid pajama pants. Parker was happy to see that that tank top showed just how well she was filling back out.
He wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his face in her neck. It made him happy to feel that she didn't tense against him and when she turned her head to kiss him he couldn't see any of the fear or panic in her eyes that had been there the first few weeks. Everyday she was more and more like the old Emily and less like the Emily that John had turned her into.
"Good morning, beautiful." Parker said. Emily turned in his arms so that the front of her body was pressed against his.
"Good morning." She replied. He kissed her and then Wyatt let out an especially loud squeal from the living room. Parker grinned and he turned to look at the boy who was looking out into the kitchen and reaching a hand out for Parker.
"What is it, daddies boy?" Parker asked walking into the living room and lifting Wyatt into his arms.
"I think he was wondering when you were going to wake up. Daddy was being lazy this morning." Emily replied turning back to the stove. Parker laughed.
"Tell mommy if she'd quit keeping me up half the night I might get up earlier in the morning." he said. Emily blushed.
"Don't talk to him about that." she scolded. Parker just laughed and sat down on the couch with Wyatt in his lap. Emily looked over her shoulder at them and smiled. She was so thankful that Wyatt had a real dad now. Someone that would sit in his pajama's on Saturday morning and just watch cartoons with the boy.
Emily finished cooking breakfast and once she and Parker were done eating, Parker picked up the phone.
"Gotta call dad. Tell him we'll be bringing Wyatt over in a minute." he said. Emily looked at him.
"Did your dad want us to come visit today?" she asked while loading the dishwasher.
"Nope.. Just Wyatt. You and I are going out." Parker replied. Emily smiled. She and Parker had not been out alone since getting back together.
