Only about 9 years old, I guess you could call me a daddy’s girl. I always wanted to be with my dad, he was my world, the most important man in my whole entire life. When I was with him I was safe, and I knew I could always rely on him.

It was only an ordinary day when my friend, Carissa, invited me over for a play date. I always loved going to my friend’s houses to play. Considering I was only 9 I loved telling stories about me seeing spirits. I always loved hearing what my friends thought, it never would have dawned on me that I should have kept everything to myself.

We were lying on her bed and I was telling her how ghost really exist, how they can talk, how they look, and basically just everything I could think of. She believed everything I told her, and she told me she experienced things I had. I then came up with the idea that we should try to contact the spiritual world. We then sat directly across from each other holding hands. I remember talking to “god”. Asking to let us see spirits, we once knew in our life. After about 10 minutes of waiting we got bored and gave up.

Later that night, my dad came to pick me up. Forgetting about the spirits Carissa and I had talked about earlier I told my dad all about the day with Carissa. As were driving down an old country road, pitch dark out it’s when I saw something. As the car got closer, and closer I realized what I saw. It was a man standing in the middle of the street, just standing there. I screamed at my dad to stop the car, it startled him a bit, but he quickly stopped the car. The moment the car stopped, the man disappeared.

Completely startled, my dad asked me why I yelled that. I explained to him I saw a strange, short man wearing all black standing in the middle of the road. I told him the man disappeared, right when the car stopped. For the first time in my life, I didn’t feel safe- even if I was with my dad. I knew that if anything happened he couldn’t help me this time. My dad just looked at me, and told me it would be okay. He began driving again, complete silence as I exploded in tears.

When I got home I ran into the house, to find my mom standing in the kitchen. I ran up to her and gave the biggest hug ever. I told her everything that happened. All she did was hug me and tell me it was okay. I was so confused to why my parents didn’t say anything, considering I was terrified. Since they didn’t show any sign of fear I finally calmed down and forgot about it.

Looking back I realize why they didn’t say much when I told them what happened. They didn’t want to scare me, with all the knowledge they know. If I had known what I know now about what happened I probably never would have been able to sleep again. That’s only one event in my life that has stuck with me forever!
