Yawning, the four of us trudged down the stairs to breakfast. We did not get to bed until late, because we were wrestling with our Care of Magical Creatures books. Hagrid had taken the place of the previous teacher, and we were given our books last night. “How could Professor Dumbledore let us use those books? I almost lost a finger just trying to pick it up.” Hermione said helping herself to some jam and toast.
“Who knew the Monster book of Monsters, would be a monster itself?” I said pouring orange juice into my goblet.
“Exactly! How does Hagrid expect us to use it if the thing attacks us?” She asked between bites of toast.
“I am not sure, I wonder when we have his class. Hey you never did say what happened last night with Professor McGonagall.”
“Nothing she just wanted to make sure Harry was ok after the Dementor came in and wanted to go over some of my classes to make sure I was sure of the ones I am taking.”
“Oh ok. Nothing major happened while you were gone.” I said as I spotted Professor McGonagall passing out our time tables. She handed me mine and I quickly scanned it, “Oh goodie, Divination and Transfiguration this morning and Flying this afternoon with Care of Magical Creatures.” I looked over at Hermione’s schedule and almost fell out of my seat.
Ron was looking at it as well, “You have Divination, Arithmancy and Muggle Studies all at the same time? How are you going to do that? You can’t be in three places at once.”
“Do you plan on sleeping any this year? You are going to be buried in homework.” Harry said also gawking at the fullest schedule anyone could have.
“I’m sure it is just an error or something. Hermione probably has already worked everything out. Come on we need to find the Divination classroom.”
“She’s right, I already have things worked out with the Professors. I will join you guys in a few minutes I need to go get a couple books I left in the dorm.”
We walked her up to Gryffindor tower and parted ways there. It took ages to find our way to the tallest tower in the Northern part of the castle, and even longer to find the door that lead to the classroom. One of the portraits we asked for help, pointed towards the ceiling where we found a trap door with “Divination, Professor Trelawney” scrawled on it.
Climbing into the room I noticed a big difference in the atmosphere. There was a calming smell in the air that quickly started making me feel drowsy. I looked around and noticed objects that seemed odd to have in a classroom; there were crystal balls, bean bag chairs and little tables with tea cups spread out everywhere. I even spotted a few lava lamps glowing from corners of the room, even though there was no electricity. At the far end of the room, there was an entry way that had beads hanging from it instead of a door, I felt like I had been transported back in time instead of entering a class room.
Ron, Harry and I took a seat at the nearest table and waited as the rest of the students filed in. At the start of the class the teacher emerged from the beaded doorway, “Divination is the most difficult of arts and some will not have the Sight to do well in this field.” She said addressing the whole class, then out of nowhere she walks up to Neville, “Youngman is your grandmother well?”
“I-I think so.” Neville stammered shy that he was singled out.
She shook her head and clicked her tongue but continued speaking to the class, “This term we will discuss and learn the art of reading Tea Leaves, Palmistry and Crystal Balls. Then move on to the harder lessons towards the end of the year.” She went on, every couple of minutes talking to individuals about different things in their lives, give a disappointing look and then act as if nothing happened.
