"How did you get hurt in the first place" Sophia asked Akhi
We were in the childrens ward at the hospital, I was with Sophia, Shiv, Joanna and of course Akhi who was the one in the hospital bed. Across the room Matt was still unconcious and Ashley was talking to his parents. They looked extremely worried, I mean who wouldn't their child was lying unconcious in a hospital bed.
"I saw Matt get hurt and I was startled" Akhi replied with a blank face
"You were startled?" Joanna asked with a raised eyebrow
"Akhi you missed the net completely and landed on your arm, it's hard to believe it was all because of Matt" I said quietly
"What the hell! The guy fell onto the concrete and was bleeding. I know he is a douche but even he doesn't deserve that." He said with anger in his voice
"Akhi you broke your arm! Don't you realise how dangerous that was! You could have gotten seriously injured! You are seriously injured!" Sophia yelled
She looked like she was on the verge on tears, Sophia was very protective of her Invisibles. I knew she was holding back tears. Why she was that protective of the Invisibles though I had no idea.
"Guys that is enough now, Soapy why don't we go outside for a bit" Shiv said while she put her arm on Sophia's shoulder
"Yeah ok" Sophia replied as they left the room
"I'll come with you" Joanna said as she ran out of the room following Shiv and Sophia
"No I'll stay with Akhi to make sure he is alright. No Akhi I'm not going to leave you. I hope you feel better soon Akhi" Akhi sarcastically mimicked the others
"Just let them cool down" I took a sip of my water
"I don't think Sophia feels any sympathy for Matt" Akhi leant his head against the pillow and looked to the roof
"Oh c'mon, why would she be like that?" I asked in disbelief. A month ago I guess I would have hated him. That moment kind of stung but I wasn't the type of person to hold grudges.
"That is for Sophia to tell you, but Charlie, be careful around Matt. Sometimes he acts without thinking and does what people expect him to do" he said while he was still looking at the ceiling.
I didn't respond instead I looked at the clock in the room, it was almost six. I was supposed to be home before six, god my parents would kill me.
"I have to go home now, my parents might get worried, get some sleep and take care" I grabbed my bag and my water bottle.
"Yeah, bye" he said yawning
I chuckled softly "Goodbye"
I left the room with a million questions on my mind. Today was definitely eventful, I remembered sitting in the waiting room being so worried. During the game I saw that person push Matt, I saw Akhi's face when he saw Matt. Today was supposed to be a fun day and seeing your friends get hurt is probably one of the most terrifying things in the world.
I turned the corner along the hallway before I bumped into someone. I looked up to see Ashley looking at me with a small smile.
Now during the month that I had spent at Lake Anderson High School I had learnt a couple of things about Ashley. I knew she liked to dress expensively; she even managed to make our drab uniform seem glamorous. And from personal experience I know that she is the cliché, rude popular girl that dominates the school. The antagonist of every high school fairytale. But everything I knew or at least thought I knew about Ashley was proven against me when I ran into her.
"Charlie! Hey" Ashley surprised me with a small hug
"Hey. Is Matt ok? Are you ok?"
"Uh yeah the doctor said he is going to be fine and as for me yeah I'm ok" she replied softly
I saw that her mascara was running, she was pretty rude to me awhile ago but at that moment I wanted to help her as much as I could.
"Ok but if you need anything just give me a call" I took out a sticky note and a pen from my bag and wrote my number down before handing it to her.
"Actually there is something that I have wanted to tell you for awhile" Ashley seemed to be on the verge of tears
"What is it?" I replied feeling concerned
"I just wanted to say that I am so so sorry for the way I treated you. I had just started dating Matt and he didn't really seem to like me, then he met you and I was afraid that he would leave me for you" she said in between sobs
"Hey" I grabbed her into a hug
"Please don't think of me as being the rude, ditzy blonde girl" she sobbed onto my shoulder
"I don't think that" I replied even though I had thought that for the past month
"Everyone else thinks that, it's the only reason I'm popular" She pulled away from our hug
"Ashley it's ok, it was a month ago. The past is in the past and don't worry, you can prove all those idiots at school wrong."
"Thank you Charlie, you're a really good friend" She gave me a genuine smile
"My pleasure, now I really have to go before my parents kill me"
She chuckled softly "See you later then"
"Of course" I waved goodbye and headed towards the exit of the hospital
When I made it outside I checked my phone. I had two missed calls from my dad. Oh no! I called him and prayed to every single god I could think of that he wouldn't be mad.
"Hello Charlie it's past six, you know the rules. Where are you?" my dad's voice asked from my phone
"Hey dad. Yeah I know. Can you pick me up from the hospital please?" I asked pouring all of my pleading skills into that one question.
"The hospital? Charlie, why are you at the hospital?" My dad sounded so worried.
"Don't worry, I'm fine but two of my friends got hurt during the basketball game today" Matt wasn't my friend but that would have sounded cold hearted.
My dad sighed with relief "Yeah ok, I'll come to pick you up just wait there"
"Ok bye"
"Bye Charlie, I love you"
"Love you too" I hung up and waited patiently for my dad to arrive
About ten minutes later my dad arrived to pick me up. It would have been an understatement to say that he was worried. After a ten minute ride home of listening to my dad's lectures of staying out late, I took a shower, changed into my comfortable Mickey Mouse pyjamas and settled into bed. I grabbed my laptop and logged onto Netflix so I could just forget about the gruelling day I just had. I was just about to scroll through the movie list when I got a message from Ashley.
Ashley: Hey Matt just woke up!! :)
I smiled as I replied
Me: That's great!! :)
I sank back into the comfort of my bed as the light of my laptop lit up the bedroom. It was a long day and God knows what it would be like tomorrow.
