Miku walked into the cafeteria, as she always did. She held a red apple in her hand, one that was quite old and just barely suitable for eating. Skipping the lunch line, she walked over to an empty table and sat down. She looked around, and smiled to herself. She was the first student there, and expected her friends to join her soon.

She thought this was all the usual, what she always did. But it wasn't.

"Miku, there you are! I haven't seen you all day, I thought you were avoiding me." The tall, salmon-haired girl smiled at her best friend. Who simply looked up at her, a blank expression on her face.

"I'm sorry, I think you have the wrong person. My name does happen to be Miku, but I've never seen you before...Just a glance in some classes we share, that is." The smaller girl replied, her voice calm. She swiftly turned back to her locker, expecting the older girl to walk away.

"Very funny, Miku," Luka said, sighing quietly. "Are you giving me the silent treatment, or something? Did I do something wrong? If so, I'm sorry." She apologized, now a bit confused. Why was Miku ignoring her? There was no way she could just forget about her best friend...

What's up with this girl? We've clearly never met before, and now she won't leave me alone. Maybe this is some twisted up tactic she uses to make friends...Yeah, that must be it! She's obviously shy, and afraid to talk to me directly! I guess I'll just have to make the first move. Miku thought, before closing her locker softly. She turned back around to the girl and gave her a smile--just big enough to be friendly, but not so big to make Miku come off as creepy.

"Well, as I obviously don't know you, I've assumed that you want to be friends! Or something like that...Either way, it's nice to meet you! I'm Miku, but you seem to already know that..." Miku trailed off a bit, giggling slightly. "What's your name, new-friend-in-the-making?" She asked,  finishing her introduction with another friendly smile. She expected the girl to gladly accept her invitation, introduce herself as well, then soon part ways as they went to their respective classes. She did not, however, expect the reaction she received.

Luka was now confused and upset. What are you doing, Miku? You can be a strange girl sometimes, but you've never done something like this...Are you alright? Did your mother do something to you? You can't have really forgotten about me...Right?  She sighed quietly, looking down. "It's Luka...Miku, you really don't remember me?" She asked, desperate for her best friend to say it was all a joke.

"I'm sorry, Luka, I don't."

Miku looked down at her apple, not minding its current state. She took a small bite out of it, then looked up and noticed her friend Neru walking over to her. "Hey, Neru!" She cheerfully addressed her blonde friend, who nodded at Miku before taking a seat across from her.

"Hey." Neru responded simply, placing a paper bag on the table and immediately pulling out her phone.

Miku sighed to herself. Neru was her friend and all, but they both knew she would much rather be on her phone than actually spend time with Miku--or anyone else, for that matter. Neither of the two girls said a word for the next two minutes, but who was counting?

Soon enough, students were pouring into the cafeteria as always. Miku and Neru were always the first two there, the rest of their friends joining at unpredictable times. The next to sit at their table was Rin. She pulled out the chair next to Miku, then proceeded to plop into it. Scooting up a bit closer to the table, she rested her arms on it.

Miku glanced at her short-haired friend, looked back at her apple, then returned her attention to Rin in confusion. The younger girl seemed upset--it wasn't too hard to tell by the expression on her face. "Rin, what's wrong?" She asked softly, clearly concerned for her friend.

"I'm fine." Rin replied through gritted teeth, staring straight ahead as if she had some sudden interest in the wall across from her.

Rin's exasperated response to Miku earned a slightly dramatic sigh from Neru, who locked her phone and placed it in her pocket. "We all know that's not true, Rin. Stop lying, it's annoying." She said, staring blankly at the mentioned girl.

"Neru, be nice!" Miku said sharply, giving the older girl a disapproving look. "Rin is clearly upset, and there's no need to be rude to her in the first place." She finished, softening her tone a bit to avoid further dispute.

"Fine." Neru grumbled, rolling her eyes a bit before returning them to Rin. "Well, my dear friend, whatever may be troubling you? Please, do tell." She said in a falsetto tone. This caused Miku to roll her eyes as well, but she kept quiet.

"If you're so interested, it's that Luka girl. She won't stop bothering me...It was something about you, Miku." Rin said, looking at the blue-eyed girl once she finished.

Miku's face showed surprise, but deep down, she immediately knew what Rin meant. She just didn't want to admit that. "Me? What was she saying about me?" She asked, slightly averting her eyes to another table...The one Luka was at.

"She pretty much just wanted to know if you had said anything about her, remembered anything...I stopped paying attention, though. She was annoying me." Rin said, leaning back in her chair. She figured Miku didn't know anything, or she would've said something by now.

"Oh. Well, I'm sure it's nothing. She probably thinks I'm someone else..." Miku trailed off a bit, remembering her and Luka's conversation the previous week. She then smiled, hoping to change the subject. "Well! Neru's not on her phone for once, so let's take advantage of this, shall we?"
