********************************Chapter 7*************************************************

RECAP:

Today, when I stop in front of the old tree, there is already somebody sitting on the old tire swing, staring at the smog covered stars.

CONTINUE:

I can't tell who it is, just that the mystery person is a male, probably about my age, maybe a little older. I hesitate, debating whether or not to turn around and leave the mystery guy to his own thoughts but he turns around right as I decide to leave.

In the moonlight, I can see his face. The boy has ash blonde hair and warm brown eyes. Certified dreamboat, dammit.

"Er, hey?" It comes out like a question.

He smiles, "Hey."

"You mind if I sit with you?"

He stands up and gestures to the tire swing, moving to sit at the trunk of the tree.

"You didn't have to do that." I move to sit down next to him, "I'm perfectly fine sitting on the ground."

"What kind of guy would I be if I let a pretty girl like you sit in the dirt like that?"

"A normal guy? What are you doing out here anyway?"

"I could ask you the same thing." He replies easily.

"Touché..."

"Evan," he supplies.

"Well Evan," I say, checking my watch, "It was lovely meeting you but I need to go."

"Wait! What's your name?"

I left without answering him. What can I say? I watched Cinderella a lot as a child...

"So what did you say?" Jade asks the next day.

"Nothing... I just left."

"WHY?! I thought you said he was hot?"

I stared at her flatly.

"I don't remember ever saying that." She grumbles under her breath, rolling her eyes.

"Come on," I pull on her bracelet clad arm, "we have to get to class."

***

Mrs. Kali is a witch. She looks like one, talks like one and acts like one. She has graying hair pulled into a tight bun on the top of her head and pale, wrinkly skin. Her eyes are cold and gray and one of them is slightly lazy so even if she isn't really looking at you it feels like she is. Sure, she dresses normally enough- old lady shoes and blouses and all that- but I'm absolutely positive that the old hag is either demonic or certifiably insane, most likely the latter.

"Katie?"

"Present..."

"Sit up straight girl." She growls.
