Self harm is more common than most people think, yet literature doesn't really portray it. There are many types of self harm: cutting, burning, scratching, choking, excessive piercings, excessive tattoos, etc. Many self harmers convince themselves that they deserve to be harmed and hurt.

•Each year, 1 in 5 females and 1 in 7 males self harm

•90 percent of people who self harm begin during their teen years.

•Nearly 50 percent of those who engage in self harm have been sexually abused.

•Females comprise 60 percent of those who engage in self injurious behavior.

•About 50 percent of those who engage in self mutilation begin around age 14 and carry on into their 20s.

•Approximately two million cases are reported annually in the U.S.

Abuse relationships are not as easy to see. Sometimes makes abuse the females, sometimes females abuse the males. There is not only physical abuse, but also emotional and mental abuse. Abusers can brainwash their abusee, making them feel like the abuse is their fault, or that it's because they're loved. Abusive relationships are not only limmeted to significant others, parents, siblings, guardians, etc.

•Nearly 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner in a single year.

•One in three adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner, a figure that far exceeds rates of other types of youth violence.

•Violent relationships in adolescence can have serious ramifications by putting the victims at higher risk for substance abuse, eating disorders, risky sexual behavior and further domestic violence.

•Only 33% of teens who were in a violent relationship ever told anyone about the abuse.

•81% of parents believe teen dating violence is not an issue or admit they don't know if it's an issue.

• Every year more than three million reports or child abuse are made of the United States alone, involving more than 6 million children, thats a report every TEN SECONDS.
•The US loses, on average, between four and seven children every day to child abuse and neglect.
