6- Not Like Before

Maria's P.O.V

We're currently at the amusement park, and I'm not surprised why Alfred wants to come here. It's always his favorite place besides McDonald's and some other restaurants. Specifically fast food restaurants.

We're in a rollercoaster and we're slowly going up... god dammit! I told that idiot I didn't want to ride it but he wouldn't budge! I'm scared af!

Calm down, Maria... calm down... look at the sunset.... isn't it beautiful from the view up here- Oh god.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" Me and some other people scream once the rollercoaster comes down and starts going incredibly fast.

Alfred, on the other hand, is all "WWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!"

No! Here comes the worst part! I hate going upside down! I'm gonna puke!

"THIS IS THE WORST/BEST PART!!!" Me and Alfred scream in unison.

"That was... absolutely... terrible." I say. "So glad it finally ended...."

"Hahahah, it was exciting for me!"

"I wonder how you didn't get sick after you ate 10 burgers before riding the rollercoaster."

I feel sick from riding that rollercoaster that I fell, and he caught me before I hit the ground. He presses the back of his hand gently against my forehead. "Oh, damn, your head feels hot. Sorry, I shouldn't have let you ride that. Want to go get some cotton candy or something?"

"Yes!" My eyes light up and I stand up again. I'm glad he asked, because right now, I really want something to chew. "Oh-- damn, I forgot... I didn't bring any money with me."

"That's fine, I'll pay for you!"

"What? N-nah, you don't have to pay for me, it's fine. I-"

"I insist! Besides, it's only for 45 cents."

He buys the cotton candy for me, then gives it to me so I take it and start chewing on it.

"I'm gonna let you decide this time," He says. "What do you wanna do?"

"Anything but going on that rollercoaster again," I answer, then something caught my eye. "Oh! Oh! Let's go to that shooting gallery over there! I really want that giant brown teddy bear!" I grasp onto his hand and drag him along with me.

I eagerly wait as he pays for the bullets. I grab a gun and start shooting the moving ducks multiple times without checking the accuracy before letting the bullets loose. Oh. I've run out of bullets.

"So, how many ducks did I kill?" I ask the guy on the counter.

"Four." He replies.

"How many points to get that giant teddy bear?"

"Hmmm... eighty."

"W-what? Are you kidding me? I can't get that much high points! Two years ago I swore it was only forty points for a giant teddy bear!"

"It was too low and lots of people got it, so we decided to double it."

"Let the hero handle this." Alfred smiles proudly, and pays 8 dollars. 10 bullets cost one dollar. Is he serious? Even when I had 20 bullets, I only got 4 points!

I watch him shoot the ducks and I'm amazed by how he never misses one single duck- Oh wait, he did. But at the end of the game, he only missed two. That makes it 82 points! (including my score)

I was gonna ask him how he's an expert at shooting and if he has used real shotguns, but I remember that his father is in the military, so the answer is already obvious.

Alfred's P.O.V

It makes me happy to see her smiling when she received what she wanted. But it still hurts me that it wasn't like when we were sophomores. That time, she gave me a kiss and thanked me, but now, she only thanked me. No kisses on the cheek.

On the river there are swan boats. We rode on them last time when we were still dating.

"Hey, Maria, wanna go on a ride there?" I gesture at the swan boats.

She shakes her head, "No way! It will get my new giant teddy wet!"

I sigh. "Alright..."

"Let's go on the ferris wheel!"

The ferris wheel... yeah, it will be a great place to be alone with her and to watch the sunset too.

Silence.

We both just stare at the view, not saying a single word to each other ever since we got in this ride.

....

"I feel nostalgic," I say all of a sudden. "How about you?"

"Yeah," She nods. "You read my mind. I was supposed to say that."

"Why did we break up again?" I start laughing.

She giggles, "I don't know. I also forgot."

"Do you think... do you think we should get back together, like we used to before?"

It takes her a moment to answer. The whole minute, she just stares outside blankly.

"...I don't know either." She finally replies. "But I think we're better off as friends."

"....Me too." I say it, even though I don't really mean it. I'm lying. I still want us to be back together.

"I had a wonderful day, Al! Thank you for everything." She smiles at me after I dropped her off at her house. And that's it, she turns on her back.

Still not like last time. There isn't one single kiss or hug.

Maria's P.O.V

I am holding the giant teddy bear with one arm, while my other free hand finds for the keys on my pocket.

"Oh sh*t, I forgot! Dang, I can't believe I left it in my locker!"

I press the door bell and knock on the door too, "JOSEPH! VANESSA! HADJI! OPEN UP!!" I yell.

The door opens and it's Joseph who unlocked the door and opened it for me.

"Thank you, Joseph." I walk in and close the door with my leg.

"THAT'S FROM KUYA ALFRED, RIGHT?"

I glance at him, "...How in the world did you-"

He shrugs, "You already had the exact same giant teddy bear, except that the other one was white and that one is brown. Also, I thought you were in detention, Ate?"

"I escaped from detention," I tell him. "I mean, I never intended to, Alfred just broke me out of detention."

"Ayieeeee-"

I cover his mouth with my hand, "Shut uppp! Go back to your room now!"

Once I let go, he grins and salutes, "Opo, nanay!"

I walk upstairs and go inside my room which is dark, so I switch the lights on.

I place my giant brown teddy bear next to the white one, both teddy bears sitting on the floor, leaning against my bed. Both from the same person.
