He would do anything for her. Anything and everything for her and only her. He would lose everything for her to be with him, but it was the complete opposite.
They met at a normal aristocratic gathering where lords and ladies met dukes and duchesses. He noticed her from far away, dressed elegantly and beautifully, as if she were the only diamond among a sea of cheap granite. He dismissed himself and made his way towards her. He was looking forward to dancing with her.
"My lady, you look ravishing this fine evening. Care for a dance?" He smiled at her, but the woman shook her head.
"I don't dance. It's too tiring, and I'd rather watch people dance. It makes the room seem a little light-hearted." The man leaned against a wall.
"This is the first someone has rejected a dance from me. If you don't mind, could I stay with you for the rest of the evening?"
The woman looked at the alluring, young man. "I don't mind, but don't you have a lady waiting for you?"
The man sighed and swirled the champagne in his glass. "Not yet at least. Her father is still determining who is more compatible."
"That's unusual. Why does it seem so unfair to let the father choose who you should marry?" inquired the woman.
"Are you not married or betrothed? It's common nowadays." The woman's eyes widened, and she blushed.
"Of course, I am. Why else do you think I am far away from everyone else? I was forced to come here and socialize. My mother and older sister complain on my stubborn independence, but I'd prefer it this way. How do you suppose?"
"I think that is very brave for a fine lady like yourself. I don't meet many woman like you."
The woman turned away. "If you are affianced, then you shouldn't be talking to an unmarried woman. It'll look too suspicious. I suggest that you leave now before you are caught." She began to walk away, but the man caught her by her wrist.
"Please, let us dance once. I am not married yet, and I would like to appreciate my time as a bachelor."
She couldn't refuse for a few people were staring at them. Sighing, she took her hand in his. "Fine, just this once, and maybe we'll never see each other again."
That was complete bullshit.
"It's lovely seeing you here." He smiled at her, but she didn't turn her head away from her focuses. "Why are you like this? You recognize me from the way you're avoiding me." He sat down next to her.
They were at a tea party held by another prestigious noble. The woman was alone, but she didn't mind the man's company.
"You at least remember my name, don't you?" he cooed.
"Of course I do. When you told me that you were a Phantomhive, I couldn't forget." She finally turned and looked into his mysterious gaze. "Vincent, what do you want with me this time?"
Vincent smiled at her and rocked slightly on the bench. "I just wanted to talk to you. Tea parties aren't my thing, really. I prefer night outings or theatrical visitations. Those kinds of events where you can still socialize with minimal interactions."
"That sounds pleasant. Now, will you excuse me for I am now lea-!"
"You're not excused, Miss [Name]. Stay awhile and chat with me. I won't bite." he said jokingly. Reluctantly, [Name] sat down.
"What do you want with me now?" [Name] groaned a little, stretching her hands out in frustration.
"I was wondering if you'd like to go on a night outing rather than this tea party. We could have our own adventures than being forced to be here," suggested Vincent.
[Name] pondered on it for awhile. "Perhaps. If we go, where shall we go?"
"I was thinking of this moonlit clearing. It's quite beautiful."
"Isn't it more...strange for a man who is betrothed to be seen with a maiden? Won't you look suspicious?"
Vincent chuckled. "I already am. Come, if you want to go. There is very little time before we set off."
They walked together, ditching the main streets in order to avoid anyone in case of gossip and lies. They were merely going on an evening stroll. It would be perfectly harmless, right?
"Why did you take me out here? I've been wondering that, and I assumed you were being friendly. But, it seems like it's more than that." [Name] was close to Vincent as they strolled along, admiring the trees and quietness around them.
"It is more than that. I'm glad you know. I truly love you, [Name]."
"Is that why you called me out on this 'date' of yours? To confess to me?"
The tall man chuckled. How dark his laughter was compared to the night. "Of course, you're my everything. I fell in love with you when I saw you. You were so beautiful, perfect. Everything I needed to complete my heart."
"What about your fiance? Is she okay with this? Your random courtship?"
"She doesn't know. She doesn't have to know. You're mine completely. Do you agree?"
They stopped at a pond and saw their reflection on the surface of the water. The moon was parallel to them, lighting up the place brighter than it actually was.
"I suppose so... I mean, we've gotten to know each other this well... It still feels off, though."
Vincent cupped [Name]'s face, pulling her into a passionate kiss. They parted; [Name] was flushed, and Vincent was smiling.
"Come with me, my everything. You'll enjoy this secret place of mine. It can be ours from now on."
He lead her by the hand, showing her a narrow, hidden path. They walked for some time until they reached the very shallow ends of the pond.
"I don't see much of a difference from that first spot. What are we doing?"
"Shush, my darling. Make everything matter from now on." He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into what seemed to be an embrace.
She sighed. "Vincent, I lov-"
She gasped for air. Vincent's arm was pulling her tighter, blocking her lungs from receiving air. She patted his arm hardly, but Vincent was mumbling to himself.
"Oh how I love you... You're perfect. Mine... Forever... Please."
It was as if he was in a trance, another dimension.
"Vince-" [Name] cried out one lats time before going limp.
"[Name], have you fallen asleep?" Vincent moved her body, so that he was staring at her directly.
"My, you are beautiful when you're dead. You ARE everything." He kissed her forehead. "I suppose it's time to say good-bye for once."
He picked up her body, stuck stones in her mouth and clothes, and tossed her into the deepest part of the pond.
No one could find his everything, ever.
