The Flames That Consume Inside And Out

A/N: Well everyone who’s read so far, here it is! The climax of the story! I’m to make it extra-lengthy because my creative juices are flowing like mad. Enjoy!

 [Archer’s POV]

“Keep the change,” I said with a enthusiastic tone as I handed the ten dollar note to the cashier for a box of chocolates and bouquet of flowers that cost no more than eight dollars.

The cashier looked at me and smiled. “Well, someone sure looks like they’re in a good mood. Who’s the lucky girl?”

“Oh, it’s a secret.”

“Ho, ho. I see. Well, you best be moving on now, lover boy. You’re holding up the line,” the cashier said as she pointed at the line behind me.

I looked at the angry, impatient looks of the customers behind me. They tried their best to turn around the smile on my face. They probably thought I was being cheeky and mocking them with my smile. Well, they didn’t know the truth.

I was happy because I finally had the courage to go up to Alexis, ask for forgiveness and possibly start over. Back then, the screw-ups I’ve been going through have been somewhat related to my dark powers. Now, however, I have a feeling that I have more control over them than ever before. Maybe if Alexis forgave me for my past actions and mistakes, my heart would be more controlled. She could be the only reason to strengthen my soul and control the demon that I have been struggling to contain within me for so long.

Yes, after today, there will be a new Archer Garth Steele. Nothing could go wrong today.

I opened the door of the gift shop and stepped outside. Breathing in the fresh morning air, I greeted the people who passed by warmly. Some were too bothered with their thoughts to reply. That’s alright with me. I’m not  going to let anyone or anything spoil what could possibly be my best day ever.

I got into my car and placed the gifts onto the passenger seat. After doing so, I rehearsed what I had to say to Alexis.

“Hi, Alexis. Great day, isn’t it?”

I thought about it for a while and shook my head.

“The weather may not make a good opener. Maybe I should say something like, ‘Good morning, beautiful. Guess what I’ve got?’ No, still not good enough. I have to make it perfect.”

I started the engine and switched on the radio as I thought. The sound of Frank Sinatra’s Coffee Song filled my ears. Ah, this music is really helping it easier to think. How do you always manage to do that, Frank?

As I drove along the road, I sang along. It was a perfect day for a drive. The birds flew in the sky and filled the air with their beautiful sounds. The grass was cut and looked their greenest. Everyone on the street looked absolutely beautiful.

Maybe after making up with Alexis, I could go and check up on Miles and Tyson. I wonder how those guys are doing? It sure has been a long time since I talked with them. I hope they’re not too made with me. Nah, they’re too cool to hold a grudge. Even if they did, it wouldn’t last more than a week.

I still felt like I wasn’t ready to talk to Alexis so I stopped by a restaurant and decided to order a burger to buy myself to think. As I stepped outside, I spotted a grey sedan on the opposite side of the street. It was impossible to see who was inside as the glass was tinted beyond transparency.
