Thy Fate Is Sealed

[Archer’s POV]

Beep…beep…beep…

I was starting to regain consciousness and as I did so, that was the first thing my senses began to pick up. A steady beeping sound that filled my ears. Steady, emotionless and never ending. I slowly opened my eyes to discover myself in a hospital bed.

I felt too weak to sit up let alone stand up. All I could do was move my eyes around and take in my surroundings. Where was I? How did I get here? I could think of more questions but I wouldn’t have the answers to them as of now due to the fact that I was alone in the room.

A tube ran connected the back of my right hand to an overhanging packet containing a clear liquid. I couldn’t make out the words on the label as my vision wasn’t at a hundred per cent focus. I let out a sigh. I was in a hospital bed with no memory of how I got here. What happened before I lost consciousness?

“What happened before you fell asleep is of little importance now, my lord,” a familiar whispery voice spoke.

Out of the dark corner of the room, a hooded figure floated out of the shadow of the curtain and moved towards me. I scanned the figure up and down.

“Do I know you?” I asked.

The figure bowed its head down. “It seems that you have suffered shock, a temporary memory loss.” The figure laid a hand over my forehead.

“If I’m not wrong, you would gain back all of your memory within the next few hours. Unless, of course, there was something significant that could act as a catalyst and bring back your memory as soon as you looked at it or heard it.”

“Look, it’s nice that you’re concerned about me but I think I really need to rest now. I can’t remember what happened or who the heck you are but I’m sorry, leave me alone.”

“As you wish, my lord. Take this time to rest and regain your strength. When you’re well-rested, prepare yourself. You’ll know where to find me. Hopefully, you’ll understand what all this is about.”

I watched as the hooded figure vanish into the shadow of the curtain. I blinked a few times at the curtain. Was I hallucinating? Ugh, I really do need to rest. However, just as I closed my eyes, the room door opened. A nurse walked in pushing a tray.

“Ah, I see that you’re finally awake, Archer. It’s time for your check-up,” she said.

She wrapped something around my arm and began pumping, making the wrap expand. I winced since it wasn’t at all comfortable.

“Alright, Archer. I’ll need to take a blood sample,” she said after removing the wrap. She took out a bottle and began dabbing the liquid inside onto my arm with a cotton swab. Then, she took out a syringe and brought my arm closer to her. This was going to hurt.

As I closed my eyes to brace for the pain, I felt something flowing within and around me. At the same, I felt the room start to shake.

The nurse gasped. “Was that an earthquake? Wait here, boy. I need to go check and with the other nurses.” She left the room in a hurry. After a while, she came back. “That’s strange. The other nurses said that they didn’t feel a thing. Well, let’s get back to the blood taking now, shall we?”

“What if don’t want to cooperate?” I snarled.

“Oh, you have to. Also, watch the tone, young man.”

“No.” I said.

“No? What do you mean no?” She asked me.

“Tell me, Olivia. How clear was the memory when you embarrassed yourself in front of your crush back in high school?”
