I somehow found the decency to take my gaze off of him. I couldn't believe what I'd just witnessed. I stared at the floor. 'I- I need to get away from this place!' I thought, darting back to the house as quick as I could. I shakily grabbed my house keys, steadily putting the key in the keyhole, then kicking the door open. I slammed the door shut behind me and drew the curtains in the living room so nobody could see me crying uncontrollably. I curled up by the front door. My mother wasn't home, and wouldn't have been for a couple more hours. I looked up slowly, seeing a knife on the coffee table right next to me. Without thinking, I grabbed the knife and stood up. I stared at how clean it was. 'I need to draw blood to make it look real...' I thought madly. I twirled the knife in my hand, then quickly sliced the blade across my wrist. I'd slit it. I screamed in pain and watched as the Crimson slipped down my wrist, then onto the floor. I wrote a note saying 'I'm sorry, mum.' It was then that I darted out of the house and into the forest. I tripped over a tree root, cursing under my breath as I hit the floor. I was helped up by a boy who looked about the same age as me. "Are you okay...?" He asked, staring at me. I held my wrist as it stung. "I'm fine..." I muttered through gritted teeth. The boy nodded. "The name's Jay, what's yours?" He asked, glancing at my heavily bleeding. "Zoe..." I announced, not daring to meet his gaze.
"Why are you here?" He growled, suddenly slightly hostile.
"I'm here because I ran away from home..." I snapped back, tears rolling down my face.
"Well, that was a stupid decision..." He muttered with a small smirk.
"You don't think I know that, dumbass?" I sighed.
