Chapter SevenFred looked over at Veronica, worried. Again, she had become more and more distant over the past few weeks, not even Fred himself could get close to her. Veronica also hadn't told them, why she hadn't shown up at the first task. Fred could only speculate, why she wasn't there.
Every once in a while, Veronica would come to the Gryffindor common room way past the curfew, which made Fred wonder and also worry even more. Veronica clearly had been told many times to not get back past curfew, but still no teacher seemed to catch her while she did so.
Fred sighed as he then looked back down at his homework assignment for Transfiguration. He had only written two or three sentences by now. He was just too worried about Veronica and her well-being.
Hermione had told Fred about how she had found Veronica in her bed, shivering, even though it wasn't that cold in the bedroom. None of them have gotten wiser. Nobody knew what was going on with Veronica.
Fred was hurt by how untouchable Veronica made herself. Whenever Fred would try and get closer, she'd ignore him or sent him flying back with some spell she used. He just wanted to help his 'Nica. Seeing her hurt, hurt him as well.
Fred now gave up in trying to get this assignment done and got up, gathered his stuff and left the hall. Yule Ball was coming closer and so many girls had asked him to go there with him already, but he never said yes. He wanted to ask Veronica, but she just never seemed to want to talk to him, whenever he would try.
-------------
Veronica had been keeping everything to herself now. The Occlumency lessons with her father were draining her, but he kept on going. Severus now knew basically everything about Veronicas life and that was, what she hated. She basically had no secrets in front of her father anymore.
So Veronica sat there in the Great Hall, doing her homework assignement for Defense Against the Dark Arts - she still found the defense part hilarious - as someone tapped her on her shoulder and, with a slight raspy, but deep voice, said "Excuse me...Veronica, right?"
The voice had a rather harsh accent, so this probably was a Durmstrang. Veronica looked up, only to come face to face with Viktor Krum. "Yeah?" Veronica said, deciding to not be as rude as she had been in the past few weeks. But she hoped that he didn't want to ask her to go to the Yule Ball with her.
Viktor smiled a little bit at her and said "I was wondering if you'd like to go to the Yule Ball with me." Dammit, Veronicas brain cursed. Veronica looked at Viktor, she could feel that everybody around them was watching her awaitingly. After a while she then said "I'd like that."
Viktors smile grew and he said "I can't wait." With that he then turned around and left. Even though Veronica loved Fred, she needed a time out right now. And Viktor would be the perfect distraction from all her problems right now.
With that she turned back to her homework. The mark on her left wrist started to burn again, as if she had done something wrong. She tried to concentrate on her homework, but the burning got worse. She looked up and her eyes searched the room for Moody.
But, as expected, he was nowhere to be seen. Veronica started to pack her things and then got up, heading for the entrance of the hall. She hadn't gotten much sleep in the past few days. Those Occlumency lessons drained her.
Severus continued to roam through her memories, even though he knew everything. She just hated it. Veronica left the Great Hall, deep in thoughts, as someone said "Aye, Snape!" With a sigh she looked up and saw Malfoy and his clique. "Piss off, Malfoy."
Malfoy chuckled and said "Where's your weasel now, Snape? Did he get enough from your filthy being?" Veronica clenched her fists and again said "Piss off, Malfoy." He just laughed and continued to walk along with her "You know, Snape, my father and your father have been planning to set us up together. I'm not fond of that idea, but it's a way to keep your bloodline clean."
Veronica took in a deep breath and then mumbled "Conjunctivitis." All of a sudden Draco let out a pained noise, which told Veronica, that she had succeeded. That curse made someones eyes hurt like hell. Veronica just walked off, as Crabbe and Goyla tried to find out, what was wrong with Draco. She chuckled lowly as she headed toward the Gryffindor common room.
When she arrived, the thing that happened to Malfoy was already theme number one. She went over to Fred, who was sitting with Lee and his twin. She had been taking distance from him for quite a while now, so she thought, that now she could put an end to this.
Veronica sat in Freds lap, startling named one at first, but then he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her lips lovingly. She kissed him back with the same amount of love. She had missed the feeling of his lips.
After a while they parted and Fred whispered "I missed you." "I'm sorry Freddie...I love you." She smiled softly and Fred returned that smile "I love you too." He then said and added "Would you like to go to the Yule Ball with me?"
Veronice hesitated for a moment. What would she say to Krum? Well, he could care about his own business, so she said "I would love to." Happily Fred kissed her again, which she gladly returned. "Ahem. Now that Freddie's got a date, what about me?" George tuned in.
Veronica pulled back from the kiss and started to laugh, along with Fred. Then she said "How about you go with Krum to the ball?" George looked at her a little confused and said "I heard he has a date already." "Had. He had a date." Veronica said and sighed lowly.
"What do you mean with 'He had'?" George got even more confused, to which she responded "He had asked me earlier and I said yes, because I thought Fred already had someone. But now that I get to go with Fred, Krum's date-less." It was only half a lie, but they believed it.
"I think Ron should go and ask Krum, ever since he loves him." The twins and Veronica started to laugh at that insider from the Quidditch World Cup, while Lee looked at them confused. "I don't know what's going on, so could one of you please be so gracious and enlighten me?" Lee asked and pouted slightly, as he didn't understand this insider.
"I am sorry Lee, but this stays an insider. Although it is very funny." George said and snickered. Veronica leaned into Fred, while he played with a strand of her hair. She missed days like these, where they would all just sit there and laugh about some nonsense. She would definitely make sure that these days won't get lost in some way.
No matter what the Dark Lord had planned with her. She would do anything to keep her friends safe. She would do anything to keep the love of her life safe from the Dark Lord.
