Wouldn't have it any other way

Haydon

The first whiff of her, I knew that she was a dangerous hunter. Her appearance was even more breath-taking when she was awake than when she was asleep.

I bumped into her and we ended up talking and I found out that she was a Drackon which was an even bigger shock...and a problem. Just my luck. What I don't want, I can get, what I want... I can't.

Currently, I was walking to my next class which was business management. I walked passed the masses of girls who were drooling and swooning over me. Poor things. I smirked and entered the classroom on my left. It was filled with groups of teenagers my age who were sitting on tables, and chatting loudly. As soon as I stood in front of the classroom all eyes were fixed on me and the chatter ceased. I could sniff out the five vampires in the classroom, but they smelt like calm, non-lethal vampires. Boring waste of vampire blood, that's what they were.  There were also several hunters, including the teacher. Great. This place had to be the shining example of coexistence.

" You must be the new student?" The teacher said peaking up from his thickly brimmed glasses. He had silver eyes, an unkempt beard and a belly which spilled the secrets of every beer bottle he touched.

" Yes," I said, bored.

He smirked at me and gave a nod. He knew who I was.

" Okay, sit at that empty desk close to the back of the classroom," he said, pointing chubby finger in the direction of the seat.

I nodded and walked to the empty desk. I noticed that the walls were covered in posters and pictures of everything to do with business management. Clearly this man loved his job... And beer.

I unpacked my bag but froze when the scent of roses and coffee invaded my nose, and immediately I looked up and saw Katerina entering the classroom. She froze when she saw me and gave the teacher a questioning look. Well, it started off with apprehension, then turned to frustration, and finally, rage.

" Yes Miss Drackon, Mr Haydon Veneziano is your new partner," the man said... Almost too happy.

Katerina glared at him, then she turned to me and glared even harder at me. I stared at her wide eyed and did not even notice the eyes of every vampire and hunter on me until she sat down. The air was thick with fear, not hers, theirs.

Katerina turned to face me. Her gaze was still harsh.

"Stick to your side of the table and keep your dirty fangs to yourself." She said.

I stared at her again. I did not know why she was so feisty now, but I liked it. It was a sign of a slightly unhinged teenage girl.

I smiled, “anything for you my beautiful hunter,"

She glared at me.

"Stop flirting. You know what will happen if you don't stop, do you seriously want to break a very important rule? You'll end up dead." she said taking a scissors in her hand and snipping it at me.

" Well I'm not one for rules," I said grabbing the scissors and pulling her close to me. We were just inches apart and I could hear the blood rushing through her veins. I made her anxious... Or was that the fear?

" I noticed," she said growling. She then yanked the scissors back, got out her books and started writing down notes frantically. Everything about her was organised. Her stationary, her notes, her folders in her bag. Clearly she was a control freak.

She stared back and forth at her notes and the board. Her every move was intriguing, mesmerising. I was just so enraptured by her.  Slowly she turned to me and shook her head.
"

Stop staring at me," she whispered through gritted teeth.

" How could I ever stop looking at something so magnificent?" I said staring into her eyes.

She shook her head and turned back to her notes. Her reaction to my compliment left me even more curious. What was it about her that made her resist me? I could have anyone with a simple wink... But not her. She was different.

" Um you don't seem attracted to me, like, at all."

She immediately dropped her pen and glared at me, holding me in an intense and quite admitably nerve-racking stare off. Seconds passed before she said anything.

" I just really, really don't like you..." she said. She turned back to her notes and I knew that our conversation was over. I paged through my book and also started taking down notes, deciding that I could at least try to distract myself away from her.

It was a long and silent lesson and I couldn't help but stare at Katrina now and then. I couldn't help but observe her lips, her eyes, but worst of all her vein that stuck out on the side of her neck. It pulsed vigorously with blood.

I could feel my eyes changing colour and my fangs elongating. I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes to calm myself knowing that if I did something stupid that it would result in Katrina becoming very very... uncivil.

She turned her head and stared at me curiously.

"What's the matter with you?" She asked.

I breathed in deeply.

" N-nothing," I gasped.

She started smirking.

" Oh it must be the smell of my blood driving you crazy huh? I guess you'll just have to get used to it," she smirked again.

I shook my head at her and took in another deep breathe.

" You're funny when it comes at the expense of others!" I said now calmer.

" Thank you, I try, “she said batting her eyelids at me.

" Miss Katrina!" The teacher shouted out loudly.

" Yes Mr Taten?" She asked harshly.

" What is the answer?" He asked.

I looked at her helpless expression.

" The answer is decrease expenses," I jumped in.

Mr Taten glared at me and I glared back, and slowly he backed away obviously scared of me.

I turned to Katrina who gave me an appreciative smile.

" Thank you, I guess your super hearing came in handy this time. But don't misunderstand me, I said thank you out of respect. I still don't like you at all," She said.

I gave her a smile, showing my fangs.

" I wouldn't have it any other way," I said.
