Kyra

I was breathing heavily, my eyes focused on Alexander who was hissing expletives as he tried to free himself from my glittering blade that had him impaled through the shoulder against a car.

"I asked you, WHERE IS MY FAMILY! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH NATHANIEL!" I could feel my hair lifting from my shoulders, electrified from the rage that flowed through me. Power coursed through my veins and i had to focus on not blasting open his stupid skull with an energy bolt.

Alexander looked up at me and openly growled like a feral animal, "You'll never find them you stupid bitch!" He stared at the blood seeping from his wound with such disgust, "How dare you impale me!"

"How dare I? How dare I? Are you fucking high?" I screetched, my voice shaking with histeria as I was overcome with laughter, "And you call me the stupid one. How dare you kiss me after using me, kidnapping my friend and showing me that my family is gone!"

Alexander stopped pulling at my blade, the crystals contact with his skin was causing it to blacken and smoke like charred wood. He looked at me with surprise, "You're seriously that angry over a kiss?" He shook his head and muttered, "Women," under his breath. He made eye contact with me, amusement dancing in his eyes, "Some friend Nathaniel was to you. He hid the truth from you. He allowed you to think your family was safe and well. Yet you're angry with me?" He laughed, "You certainly are a curious creature."

I was shaking with anger and confusion. The only reason Nathaniel would lie to me would be to protect me. I was sure of it. He was my friend, wasnt he? "Nathaniel only hid the truth to protect me."

Alexander raised an eyebrow, "You dont sound so sure. At least I have shown you the truth."

This only made me angrier, "Oh so that makes it all okay does it? The way you used me to open the gates to Hell, then the way you tried to KILL me? Are you seriously looking for forgiveness?" I clenched my fists, feeling the spark of heat within my palms that meant my hands were now encased in roiling blue flames.

Alexander studied the fire, intruged, "So what is your plan Kyra? Kill me and go on some crusade to find your family in the Netherworld? You'll only get yourself killed like a fool."

"Killing you sounds like a good idea to me," Laughed a voice and I spun on my heel to see a woman clad in leather tapping what looked like a crossbow against her thigh. "But please you two, continue arguing in the middle of the street. I'm sure you wont attract a couple of wraiths looking for a snack."

"Who the hell are you?" I blurted, taken offguard by this woman in her badass getup and hair the colour of ripe strawberries. Her eyes were a startling colour of glowing silver and she began to inspect my form as if i was an interesting bug under a microscope. I probably looked crazy, standing in a street in my pyjamas, hands on fire and screaming at an impaled demon. Behind me Alexander groaned with distaste.

"I thought your kind was dead."

The woman lifted her crossbow and pointed it at Alexanders head, "Do not speak to me." She didn't even look at him, just continued to study me with interest. She nodded to herself as if something made sense then answered my question, "My name is Astraphine, but you can call me Astra." She smiled as she turned her gaze on Alexander, "and I hunt things like him."

Alexander leaned his head back against the car, his jaw working as he tried to stare Astra down. She bared her teeth at him. No, not teeth. Fangs. I saw what was about to happen, she was going to loose an arrow and hit him square between the eyes. I couldnt let that happen, I needed him alive. I needed him to tell me where in the Netherworld I could find my family. I knew that he knew. There's no way that he wasnt involved. I stepped infront of her, blocking her crossbow with my own chest.
