Sophia POV
I watched a tall dreadlock black women stand next to Jessica in her bridal gown.
"Alektra..." I whisper her name and her eyes immediately lock onto mine. Her dark brown orbs widen in shock at first only to become slits as she smiled which made my heart skip a beat.
"Mommy Mommy who is that?" Jasmine, my 10-year-old asked tugging my arm. Jasmine, who was conceived that faithful night in college. Jasmine, who made me give up my college life to become a full time mom. Jasmine, daughter of Mike Williams who has been let out of jail 9 years ago for statutory rape with his friends. Jasmine, who I love with all my heart and the only good thing Mike ever gave to me.
"Oh, she's a friend that I had in college." I told her as I fixed her black curly hair and straightened out her powdered blue dress.
"She's a very pretty lady mommy." Jasmine said still looking at Alektra.
"I know sweetie, now sit down the ceremony is starting" I told her and Jasmine took a seat next to me. I looked back up but Alektra was gone.
"Hello Sophia." I shivered as I heard her deep voice before I saw her. She sat to my right in her women tuxedo and her hands in her pockets. She had a lazy smile on her lips as her eyes dragged across my body like the first time we met but this time I wasn't afraid.
"Hi Alektra" I said smiling.
Her eyebrows then knitted into a frown and her hands clasped in front of her in frustration. "Can we talk later?" She said this not looking at me.
"I would love to Alektra..."
And that's all we said to each other until the end of the ceremony. Alektra didn't look at me once until the wedding was over as she stood next to Jessica,as the best man. It was the end of the ceremony when she looked at me and cocked her head to a quiet corner in the reception area. I got up and followed Alektra after I told Jasmine to stay by Imara. Walking behind her, I couldn't help but notice how more attractive she's gotten over the years. Her dreadlocks were neat and long, they reached the middle of her back, her walk was always lazy in college, but now they were in controlled clips. To say that I missed her is an understatement. When we reached the corner she didn't turn around right away, she just faced a wall. I was about to say something when.
"Why didn't you contact me..." She mumbled.
"I-I would have but-"
She turned to me suddenly with tears in her eyes
"But what Sophia it's been 10 years!"
"Alektra I would have but it was just to hard...."
"To hard?! What the fuck is so hard about picking up the phone and calling to let me know that you are ok?!"
I had to take a deep breath
"Alektra, I would have but it was just a difficult time."
"A difficult time! What was so difficult!"
That's it
"I was raped that night by Mike, I went to the hospital and stayed for a week because I was in shock. My parents soon came and picked me up and I stayed at their house, that's when I noticed my period was late. That is why I have a daughter named Jasimine and that is why I'm leaving with my daughter!"
