"Take me home. Please. Take me home."
I cried into Wren's shoulder. He carried me down the stairs in just a blanket as he told me the dress was too difficult for him to figure out how to put me in it.
"Is she ok?" Emersyns voice came from the door.
"Get out of my way jack ass." Wren shoved passed him almost knocking him over.
"That wasn't the plan slumb!" He hollered.
"It was just innocent pictures so she insured us our A's. If we don't pass, we don't make state!"
Emersyn opened my passenger door and set me down on the cold seat.
"Those pictures will be deleted otherwise your face will look like your buddies, you got that?"
"What's your deal with her anyway? You got a little crush or something, slumb? She doesn't want you. No one does."
Aubry ran up to Emersyn, talking him into going back inside with her.
The jeep door slammed shut and I felt a cold hand on my bare leg. I jumped in fear.
"I'm sorry. I'm just checking on you. Where do you live, Lennox?"
"Why were you here?"
"Oakley called me. She said she was worried about you. Colt told her about the pictures and told her to get out of there because it was going to get worse and she was next."
"He warned her? But he did it too?" I winced at the memory that fled through my head.
"What? Colt did it too? Who else did, Lennox?! Tell me!"
"No. Please get me out of here. Please!"
Wren started the jeep and did a few cookies in Emersyn's pretty yard before peeling off out of his drive way and onto the main road.
"I'm dropping you off and then going back."
"No Wren. Colts dad is a sheriff, they'll press charges."
"He hurt you."
"Why do you care?"
Wren didn't answer. The static on the radio and the wheels rotating on the pavement beneath us was all I heard.
"Where am I taking you?"
"With you."
"What?"
"I can't go home like this. My dad will freak."
"You're not going to tell him?"
"Those pictures will end up all over the Internet! Enough people know already."
"Then where am I taking you Lennox?"
"To your house." I started to fade off again. My vision was fuzzy and I couldn't hold my head up any longer.
"Lennox? Lennox? Wake up!"
Wren tried to pull me out of the jeep my body was so limp and heavy I could feel the leather seat ripping on my skin.
"You got to help me out here, Lennox."
I tried to move and with just the little effort I gave him he swooped me up into his arms and carried me into a house.
"Can you turn on a light?"
"Umm. No. I can't."
"Why not?"
"I just can't."
"Do I really look that bad?"
"No Lennox. You went through alot tonight and still look gorgeous."
"Then what is it?"
"Keep your voice low, please!"
"Samuel?!" A mans voice came from what I was guessing was a hall.
"Yeah dad?"
"Who's here?"
"A friend dad. Sorry to wake you up."
"Your girlfriend?" The voice was now in the same room as us. I could make out a big figure in the dark. He had a big beer gut and what looked like a fuzzy beard.
"Umm. No dad. Just a friend. Lennox this is my dad, Abe. Dad this is Lennox."
"Sorry I don't get the pleasure of seeing your face Lennox. I guess my mind slipped paying the light bill again. But nice meeting you."
"You two sir."
"Sorry my son brought you to this shit hole. Sleep good. No hanky panky. We don't need some baby crying all night and driving us all mad. Plus there's barely enough here as it is."
"Night dad." A door shut and Wren sat me down a squeaky couch cushion that popped every time I moved.
"You could have told me that was the reason, wren."
"It wasn't important. It's just a light. Let me find you a pillow. And some clothes maybe."
"It don't mind sharing your bed instead of sleeping on here."
"That is my bed, Lennox. We are sharing it."
"Oh.. umm.. alright."
He slept on a broken couch? Home was sounding better with each second that passed in this cigarette smelling house.
"Here. I found a pillow, don't worry I slipped it inside one of my hoodies so it's clean. And you can wear my shirt."
Wren took his shirt he was wearing off and pulled it over my head. He helped me pull my arms through the holes and laid my head down on the pillow. I could catch a glimpse of him from the street lights outside of the window and I could tell he had cut abs and much larger arms than he ever showed.
"Sorry I brought you here."
"Why?"
"It's a smelly dumpy trailer. I just didn't know where else to go and you're almost out of gas."
"Oh.. don't worry about it. I'm so tired and freezing."
"Here."
Wren crawled onto the couch behind me. He wrapped his arms around me so my face was pressed up against his rock hard chest. He rubbed his hands up and down my arms trying to warm up.
"Why are you helping me?"
"I like you, Lennox. Goodnight."
I closed my eyes and tried to forget the nightmare.
