Chapter 1
Leah was fixing her backpack in her arms while carefully-trying to walk without stumbling amidst the cold night. She turned around to look at her back and when she realized that no vehicle or any sort of transportation that could help her or just anyone at least, she flickered her small flashlight so she can see her direction. She abruptly stopped when a droplet hit her face and cussed because from all the problems and struggles she had encountered -rain have to happen as well. On top of all, she hates rain. Seconds later, the rains are falling way to her dislike. Well Shit.
She was just positioning the hood in her head when she heard a loud crash near the road her walking in. She saw the flash of the headlights, after the deafening burnt of the rubber, the car turned left in no-direction.
She paled then froze while watching as the car hit on one of the trees beside the road. Getting out from her trance, she ran towards the said accident. Maybe, another drunk driver. She thought bitterly. With the open headlights, she saw how the car is all wrecked from the crash. If the driver is not in his seatbelt, then he's probably dead by now.
When she reached the front, she silently prayed that the driver is still alive. She saw the outline and the man is still leaning in his seat. Meaning he's not stupid enough not to wear his seatbelt. Thank God.
She gulped as she saw that the man is covered in his own blood. She opened the door which luckily not locked. She stared at the unconscious man for a long second. He was good-looking. And she mentally slapped herself for thinking that. For now, whether the man is hot or just really hot, that's not important. What's important is if he's alive or not. She tried the get a hold of the man but yanked her hand right away after when she felt that his chest was wet with blood. His arm is bleeding non-stop. She took a shaky deep breath. Oh, no, this is not happening again! She tried to control herself and calm her fast-beating heart and THINK what to do next. It did not mean that when she was not able to save her father, she was not going to do it this time.
She felt for a pulse and sighed in relieve as she did. The man is still alive. But the injuries are of course noticeable. The man doesn't smell like alcohol so it means he's not drunk so maybe he lost control of his car or something? But anyway, she tried not to panic and do first-aid.
She need to ask for help but no else is around. It's midnight for Christ's sake and is fucking raining.
While thinking, she took out a piece handkerchief to somehow cover his bleeding wound. But she needed to take the seatbelt first. So yeah, she tried to take the seatbelt but she released an obvious fright squall as the man suddenly moved gripped his wrist.
"What are you doing?" the man asked hoarsely but audible.
"I-I'm trying to release you from this seatbelt so I can wrap your wound with my handkerchief. Hands off!" she whisper-yelled making a DUH expression.
"Who are you?"
" L.A!"she said automatically. Even when in time of crises like this one, she won't forget to remember to hide her secret."I s-saw your car crashed. I'm not a thief! I'm saving you in fact." She said quite annoyed.
She can feel the man's heavy look at her but unwrapped her grip from him anyway. He continued doing what she's ought to do. He unleashes the seatbelt. The man's arm was badly bleeding.
"Just put the cloth there, L.A. Then, kindly get...my phone above the dashboard."
She was shock by his tone. It was annoyingly demanding but calm like she was just stating the weather's current state -that reminds her, it's still raining. She subsided that thought and followed his request to get his phone.
"If you want, I'll call for you but I don't know any hospital number so-"
"No. Not hospital. Key in one-one-zero-zero, then wait for...a beep. H-hurry."
"ah-a oh- o-okay." His hands are trembling and he's having hard time even with just four numbers. I took the phone to his ear and listened."It beeped as you said!"
"Then alpha-alpha-charlie-echo."
"Huh?" she stupidly looked at him, questioning. What did she say?
The man closed his eyes for a moment before firmly saying"Five 2 and one 3."
Leah hurriedly dialled the number with panic and waited but again it's just another beep"Then?"
"Wait for a voice."
"aah," as she said that she heard an electronic voice on the other line asking for a code.
"It's asking for-"
"Two-two, five-five-five, two, three-three-three."
"Are we calling a hospital?" she asked"coz you might be dead-on-arrival if so" she said looking at the man.
"We're calling up a friend of mine who can help," the man answered.
Aahh. Okay. So what's taking so long? Before she could blurt out her thoughts there was a voice on the other line again but this time, a human voice -and a girl at that.
"Z? For goodness' sake, where are you?" the girl on the other line asked. She was about to answer but the man suddenly took the phone from him."Code Eve, Chameleon. Trace me through GPS. I'm near in my house, just half a kilometre away. I'm already in the vicinity but I don't know where exactly," the man she now know named Z said. Then she fell unconscious. What the hell?
He can't believe the man just collapsed. She leaned the man's head in the headrest and took the phone."H-hello?"
"Who's this?"
"L-L.A is my name. Are you a friend of Mr Z? He lost consciousness. And- - and the bleeding won't stop. What should I do? I don't know where to find help. I'm not from here."
"Okay, L.A. Listen to me. Is there anyone else there?" the girl asked.
She looked around"No. I don't know if there's anyone else who heard the crash. It's raining."
"Okay. Don't worry. There will be people coming there to help. They're on their way. Please accompany him while they're still not there. All right, L.A?"
"A-All right. But what am I gonna do with his wounds?"
"Find something, a cloth or --"
"There is. But it's all wet, "she said in a trembling voice. She have never been afraid her whole life. It's not the first time she experienced having someone dying in her arms, but there were other people at that time and now she's only alone.
"Hold on it, just press it there. We've found you. Our friends will be there in a minute."
"How? Where at-"
"In his phone...It has a mobile positioning device."
"Okay. Just hurry." She sighed in relief after that. She can't afford witnessing death again.
At least the woman did not cut the line and she's just asking a few questions. She's been very careful with her answers though and some are lies too. Until there she saw a van coming on their way.
"That should be them." the woman on the line said.
