Tony
"He didn't do anything," I growled at Mr. Benson. "He did nothing, he did nothing, he, did, nothing."
Ms. Rodriguez stepped in, "Now stop yelling, Tony--"
"I'M NOT YELLING!"
"Tony Wilkinson," Mr. Benson growled, "unless you want another suspension on your record I'd suggest you lower your voice."
Without even getting angry, he got me to shut up.
The old man sat back on his swivel chair with ease, one hand combing through the hair he didn't have, and the other contemplating whether it should pick up the phone or not. God, everything about this guy reminded me of a vulture. That long pointed nose, his oily bald head; the only thing that didn't mimic the bird was his freaking curved elf ears that can supposedly "hear all".
"Do you want to tell me what happened?"
My mouth didn't move. What part of the situation did he not understand? We argued, we had a fight, Jake was hurt...there was nothing else to say.
"We can sit here all day, Tony," he glanced up Ms. Rodriguez and tilted his head, obviously some secret code saying this is gonna be a long day.
"Sounds good," I laughed. "I was hoping to miss out on chemistry."
My eyes trailed down to my arm, where a large bruise was staining my skin. Damn, the guy got me good. I was hoping to get in a few hits without coming home with an explanation.
I don't even know how this happened. We were hanging out, laughing about his dead ass love life, then his dead ass love life led to Jake...which led to some smart ass words...then for some reason I'm smacking the guy upside the head and taking a punch to the gut.
No, I'd be lying if I said I didn't know how this all started.
The thing is, I don't wanna admit it.
"Since cooperating isn't one of your options..." the man picked up his desk phone, "What's stopping me from calling your sister about this?"
Lying might have been the best option at the moment. 'Rachel lost her phone' ' Rachel's doesn't care', but, well, honesty is the best policy, isn't it?
"Nothing, Mr. Principal," I said with a smile reaching my ears. "There's nothing stopping you from calling her, so why ask me if you should? Go ahead why don't you! I mean, how many times have I been suspended already? Don't you think she gets bored getting a call from you, especially in one of her meetings? You wanna be the one to disturb her from here to Seattle? Call her, dammit!"
Apparently, my reverse psychology didn't effect the man at all.
Mr. Benson picked up his desk phone and started dialing, "Maris, will you lead Tony out please?"
I almost forgot the little woman standing in the corner. Getting up, a thought rang threw my head, and I sat back down.
Clearly confused, Mr. Principal put down the phone.
Admit it. Admit it you bastard, I thought to myself.
"We were passing the football around."
Ms. Rodriguez raised her eyebrow, "Were you talking at all, sweetie?"
Dammit, why is this so hard for you to say? Say it!
"Yeah..." a gulp went down my throat, "his girlfriend broke up with him a couple days ago and we started...you know...talking crap about her."
