When I awoke that morning, I felt like it was any other day in the boring life of Ezekiel Kar, my friends all call me Zeke. Like any other day I barely woke up, and like any other day I had no desire to move from this comfy, warm spot on the bed. Then, I remembered why I might like to get up today. Today was one day that I'd been looking forward to for the last year! A solar eclipse! I know, I know, it doesn't sound that cool, but if we haven't covered this...i'm a nerd. My parents were having this huge bonfire so that everyone could come and watch the once in a lifetime event. By the way, I didn't mention before, my parents are boring. Mom's a math teacher and Dad works as a milkman. Even if they are boring, I know that I got everything from them. Math and science are like breathing to me. Anyways, as I was saying.. I had a choice to invite four friends so I chose the best friends I knew. Michael, who's tall, strong, on the football team, and still seems to find reason to talk to me. Then Kevin. He's a little shorter than Michael with the same light brown color hair, but Kevin is closer to my actions. He can do science and math with flying colors -not as fast as me- but still impressively so. Then Isaac and Evan, A.K.A the inseparable twins. They do everything together. That's just how it is with them, both or none.

Once everyone arrived, which included me, my friends, and two of my parent's friends, it was already noon. Only an hour until the solar eclipse's approximate crossover. We could already see the moon on its path toward the sun. Everyone put on their sunglasses and sat back in the comfy patio chairs. As we waited my friends and I started talking. "Hey Zeke..what if this makes our eyes fall out??" Isaac asked. He tends to get nervous easily. "Yeah right," I told him calmly, "with these specially designed glasses there is no way that there could be any damage to your eyes." As I said this I almost doubted myself...almost. We watched and watched. Michael kept jumping up and moving around every two minutes, active as he is, he can't grasp the concept of just sitting.

On Michael's 30th or so time up we watched in amazement as the sun and moon joined together and looked as if they were one. Night and day were one. A perfect conjunction of opposite beings. I heard the "oohs and awhhs" coming from all around. Even the air smelled awe filled. A chill went down my spine and I was suddenly cold...surrounded by moving air although no signs of wind appeared anywhere else. A feeling of floating without moving. I knew this was just the amazement playing with my brain, so I went back to watching in awe; Taking in the beautiful mystery.

After a few hours of nonstop talking about the amazement that everyone felt as they watched, my friends and my parents alike headed inside. Everyone was surely ready for a sleepless night because of the shear intensity. I laid down for my own restless night, the likes of which, I will never forget.
