"Alexander. Wake up."
Alexander furrowed his brows at the soft voice. He rolled over onto his other side and tried to go back to sleep.
"It's important, I promise. Really really really important."
Alexander sat up in bed, and tried to wipe the tiredness from his eyes. The sunshine coming through the window made his eyes hurt. Whatever John needed had better be important.
"What is it?"
John darted his eyes to the clock on his bedroom wall and then back to Alexander. He waited for him to respond.
"It's 9am."
Alexander said, slowly, trying to grasp its importance.
"Yep," John replied, growing a tad impatient at Alexander's cluelessness.
"I don't understand why is it so important that - "
Work, oh my god.
Alexander scrambled quickly out of bed and started to push his hair back into its usual pony tail. He was still in last night's clothes, but they'd have to do. At least it was better than pajamas. He cleaned himself up as best as he could, splashing water on his face would have to disguise his messy appearance.
"My boss hates tardiness, oh my god what if he fires me? I really can't lose this job."
John shoved a sandwich into Alexander's hands to eat on the way there.
"Alexander, hurry up and leave! You don't have time for rambling right now."
Alexander woke up at the reprimand. Babbling thanks and hurriedly kissing John on the cheek, he finally left the apartment.
John watched the man stumble down the stairs. He knew how much this job meant to Alexander, and if he lost it because of him, well, John would never forgive himself.
Having no plans for the day, unlike the always busy Alexander, he decided to enjoy a few peaceful moments alone, and layed back down in his bed.
...
Alexander was panting heavily. Luckily, the Washington Post office was close to John's apartment building. Still, he kept up a hurried pace, rather concentrating on avoiding running into fellow pedestrians or light posts, instead of worrying about the look on his boss's face when he showed up late.
When he finally arrived at the building, he was out of breath. He waited for a minute to try and catch his breath. From this moment on Alexander swore to himself that he would take up running.
"Hamilton, what's the rush?"
Alexander turned around and looked at his coworker, trying to disguise the fact that he had just been running like a lunatic. He puffed out a greeting at the waiting man.
"Why you insist to come to work on your days off will always confuse me," Burr muttered as he entered the building.
Alexander pulled a face at Burrbefore he actually understood what he had said. He realized what day it was. Saturday. Alexander only worked on weekdays, or at least was only supposed to work on weekdays.
Alexander hit his forehead in annoyance and started to make his way back home. John's departure had left Alexander's weekends quite empty. Sure, he still had Lafayette and Hercules, but they had other friends and lives too, and they couldn't hang out with him every weekend. So he would come into work on the weekends, as sad as that may sound to some.
Alexander loved his work, and even though nothing could truly fill John's absence, he was grateful for some occupation.
But, Alexander reminded himself, John was back.
