Chapter 1: School

Today is the first day of school.  High School.  I am not looking forward to sophomore year.  I am going to have more assignments than ever, thanks to my mother, who convinced my dad, Board of the International Spies Director, that I was "ready" for more responsibility, thus the more cases.  On top of homework, the unexplained absences, and my parents' constant supervision,  I have to worry about "social status" and being picked on by the head "It" girl this year and her cronies.  High School is bad enough without the constant worrying of how to be "cool".  If only they knew.....

I'm getting ready and I can't stop the dread from growing within me.  Spy training should've prepared me for this.  I get dressed in black jeans, a graphic tee from Hot Topic, my favorite store, that said, "Sherlocked".   I put on my gray Vans, and brush my long, jet-black hair.  I throw it into a messy bun, which looks great on me by the way, and head downstairs into our massive kitchen.

"Morning Emma, excited for your first day as a Sophomore?" My dad asks me, glancing up from his newspaper as he sipped on a cup of tea.

       "Where's Mom?" I inquire.

"Last minute mission.  She was in my office this morning when I was choosing who to assign it to,  she asked to take it."

       "How long?"

"If nothing goes wrong, then a week at the least," he answers

"DAMMIT!" I exclaim looking down at my watch, "I have to go.  Bye Dad."

"Bye honey," he says, looking down, absorbed in his paper again, but I couldn't hear him, as I was out the door at the time.

"Amelia, Belle, and Sadie won't be too keen if I am late picking them up," I say to myself. "Dammit, I shoulda brought a sweater,"  as I think how nice the sun would feel instead of this ghastly weather.  I also should've brought a thermos of tea.  Oh that would be nice.
