Chapter One The Kill N Run

Gordie was my best friend. He also was my twin brother. Megan and Anna were our younger sisters. We lived on the country and had a good share of money. Chris, Vern, and Gordie were like the group of guy friends. They were only fourteen and smoked. But that's just how it was. The "cool" kids smoked. Chris Chambers older brother Johnny was the leader in the old group. Johnny went out and partied, slept with all the girls, sold drugs, you name it he did it. They came from a bad family and everyone knew Chris would turn out bad.

The summer before our freshman year Gordie and I wanted to make it count.

One morning I saw Chris talking with Gordie outside. I went down thinking nothing was wrong. The moment I opened the door Chris was leaving. "What was that 'bout?" "Nothin. Look I need you to cover for me these next couple days." "Where you gonna go?" "Outta town." "Be more specific. You can trust me." "Okay." He leaned in closer to me. Now he was whispering. "Chris killed Ace. We gotta run."

Ace was Johnny's best friend. They had been the troublemaking duo ever since preschool.

"Gordie let me go with you." "Why do you wanna come?" "Because it's our summer and I wanna be there plus won't Megan and Anna wonder why you left without me?" "I don't know Em. This is serious."  

"I know it is! That's why I wanna help." "You can't hold us back." "I won't. I swear." "Alright you can go." "Yes! Thanks Gordie!" "Lets get ready."

We told Megan to cover for us. She agreed and we packed our sleeping bags. At five in the morning Gordie and I met Chris an Vern at The Bridge. The Bridge is at the very end of town and Johnny normally deals drugs there.

"What the hell is she doing here?" Said Vern. "Yeah Gordie we ain't all bringin our girlfriends along!" Chris said. "Girlfriend?!!" Gordie and I said at the same time. "She's my sister not my girlfriend!" "Oh" Chris looked down and kicked a few rocks. Vern started laughing because he knew I was Gordie's sister. "But really Gordie what's she doing here?" Vern asked after he was done laughing. Before Gordie answered he leaned in towards Chris and Vern. "She talked me into it" Chris looked over at me, stared a little, and winked.

After Gordie explained no one complained about me coming along. Vern and Gordie took the lead. Chris was up with them for a second, but the ended up walking side by side with me.
