After work, Newt came up to me like normal, although I could tell that he had been thinking about last night. "Hey Y/N, I wanted to apologize for snapping at you last night." He said, anxiously. "No, Newt. I'm the one that should be apologizing, I overreacted, I'm really sorry." I responded. "It's alright, I don't know what I was thinking." He said. "I just want you safe, that's all." I tell him. " I will be and I won't leave you, ever." He says, wrapping me in a hug. "Thank you, Newt." I respond.

He walked with me to my hammock, like every other day, and I had laid down to relax and just think a bit before dinner. Without realizing it, I quickly started to doze off.

Around the time the doors were supposed to start closing, I woke up to the sound of the gladers stampeding over to the doors. Minho and another runner, hadn't gotten back yet. Newt had woken me up and taken me over to the doors, where everyone was waiting. We made our way to the front and I'd overheard people talking, the other runner's name was Ben. Soon after, Newt and I had spotted them, but Minho was carrying the other runner, and at a slow pace. once those doors started to close, we knew they wouldn't make it. In the split second before they shut, Newt darted forward, before I could grab his arm, he was pushing his way through the closing walls and just before they shut, I saw him push forward to the other side. I knew at that moment, that I would probably never see him again.

I fell onto my knees and started to cry, I couldn't stop myself from sobbing into my hands. I was in complete shock, I almost couldn't breathe. A pain had shot in my heart, the worst pain I could possibly imagine. He was the only person I had, the only one who truly cared, and I had lost him.
