Chapter Nine

It was the night after my party with my family. I hadn't received much, mainly money, but I had fun. I had a red velvet birthday cake, and we had a buffet with various burgers and types of chips. It was great, but I had missed Aaron and Lauren. Lauren had been getting her hair cut, for my actual party in two weeks. I didn't know what Aaron had been doing, but I had face timed him.
"Hello!" I said when he finally answered.
"Hi, babe," he replied. I gave him a funny look.
"Babe?" I questioned.
"Sorry," he looked sheepish.
"Aha, don't worry. What are you doing tomorrow?" I asked.
"Nothing, why?" He replied.
"I was wondering if you might want to hang out with me and Lauren,"
"Sure,"
"Cool, come to mine at 11?"
"Yeah, cool," he opened his mouth, as if to say something, then hesitated.
"What?" I quizzed.
"Does Lauren know?"
"Know what?"
"About, y'know, us?"
"Of course! She was on to us anyway, she would've found out," I replied.
"Oh," he said.
"You know, you're acting really weird tonight," I glared at him through the screen.
"I'm not!" He semi-shouted defensively.
"Sure," I replied, contemplating whether I should hang up or not.
"Mona, I'm not acting weird!" He was yelling now.
"First you tell me you love me, then you call me babe," I started. Even I could hear the disgust in my voice.
"Mona, I love you!" Aaron cut me off. It was silent, neither of us spoke.
"I love you too," I whispered.
"Good, I'll see you tomorrow," he said as he hung up.
I laid down in my bed, and began to fall asleep, when I heard my door opening. It was Lauren.
"Hey, why did I hear shouting?" She asked.
"Me and Aaron had an argument," I replied, and she came and sat next to me.
"Ugh, did you fix it?"
"Yeah,"
"You know what," Lauren's eyes lit up, "let's have a sleepover!"
"Yes! Like we used to!" I replied, excited.

In a matter of minutes, we had pulled a mattress out from under my bed and taken Lauren's duvet. We had put on some face masks and were about to put on Clueless when I got a text from Aaron.
'I'm sorry, excited for tomorrow!' It read. I smiled and watched the film.

The next day, I woke up at 10 O'clock. Lauren was still asleep, so I went on my phone. I had a message from an unknown number.
'Hi Mona! So excited for your party!' It read. I was confused. Who had I invited to my party whose number I didn't have? Then I remembered. Jen. I ignored the message when I heard a demonic scream. Lauren had just woken up and was stretching.
"Morning," I giggled.
"Ugh," she grunted as she sat up sluggishly. "What are we doing today?" She finally asked after what seemed like years of stretching.
"Party planning?" I quizzed.
"Yeah okay," she replied.

We were eating pancakes, when we heard a knock on the door. I went to answer it. It was Aaron, holding a box of chocolates.
"Hey," I greeted, as I opened the door wider so he could walk in.
"Hi," he replied handing me the chocolates.
"What are these for?" I asked as we walked through to the kitchen.
"Saying sorry," he smiled.
"Aww," I smiled back then placed a small kiss on his cheek.
"Mona," Lauren called, "where are your parents?"
"They flew off this morning," I said when I walked into the kitchen.
"Aye," she had a mouth stuffed of pancakes. "Hi Aaron."
"Hey," they exchanged awkward glances.
"So, party planning?" I broke the ice.

Two weeks passed. Aaron and I had gotten used to sneaking around school, hiding away in cupboards and behind the stairs. We had decided to announce our relationship at my party.

"Skip this song," I complained to Lauren as Justin Bieber blasted through her phone.

"But I love this song," she moaned back.

"And I hate it," I reached for Lauren's phone and skipped the song, so that Ariana Grande was playing instead.

"You're lucky it's your birthday," she blended her contour effortlessly.

"I know," I replied.

Three hours later, the party was in full swing. I was wearing a black, skin-hugging dress, that was short and had cuts down the side. I paired it with my favourite necklace, one that my parents had bought me. It was silver, with a diamond pendant that hung from my neck. I was wearing some black heels, and my hair was loosely curled. For my make-up, I opted for a red lip, a strong smoky eye, sharp contour and winged eyeliner. Lauren wore a red, tight, short, low cut dress with black heels and the same makeup as me. We were taking selfies when Aaron arrived. He looked effortlessly sexy, with his black skinny jeans and white t-shirt, and his hair floppy around his face. He walked through the crowds of people over to me, and he hugged me.

"Happy birthday," he whispered.

"Let's get drunk," Lauren pulled us apart and dragged us to the drinks table, where half the school were already, taking shots of vodka and sipping blue WKDs. First, I took a shot of vodka, then Lauren began pouring the bottle into my mouth, where it spilled down my dress.

"Let me," Aaron said, picking up a napkin. He came over to me and began dabbing the vodka off of my bare collarbone. He stared into my eyes, and I stared back into his dreamy ones, as he continued to dab away.

"Get a room!" Lauren shouted, ruining the moment and making all of the tipsy teenagers laughed. Aaron coughed, and walked away, to crack open a beer. He winked at me from across the table.

Although I was tipsy, I made out a familiar face walking through the door. She was tanned, with tousled blonde hair. I shrugged it off and yelled; "Let's play a game!" Everyone cheered and began sitting in a circle, and the mysterious figure did too.
