Three Years Later

Messiah stood over the half pipe watching the other skaters. He wiped the sweat off his forehead.

"Come on," Sydney said before she dropped in.

Messiah was right behind her as they skated around. Soon he checked his watch.

"Shit, it's two. We gotta go!" He said getting up with Sydney following him.
They grabbed their skateboards and backpacks. They hopped on their bikes and peddled away.

"What time she say she was gonna be home?" Sydney asked.

"Three, I got a doctors appointment for my wrist." He said.

Sydney shook her head.

"You can't be leaving school early to come skate." She said.

"I should ask my mom if I can take the GED test too. School ain't the move. Niggas is crazy, them girls wanna either meet my mama or have my baby and them teachers crazy as hell." He said.

Sydney busted out laughing. Sydney in the past years got to take the GED when she was sixteen after talking it over with her mother. A year later she moved down to Texas with Shawn and Beyoncé. They allowed her to stay as long as she kept a job. Which was working at the studio.

Beyoncé and Shawn had got married a year after Messiah turned thirteen and last year had a baby. Messiah was now a big brother and all he wanted to do was be a producer and skateboard. Beyoncé never liked the skate board idea for him or Sydney but they were good and loved it.

Sydney and Messiah rode their bikes in the backyard and then went in the house through the back door. They both took quick showers and got dressed. They both ended up downstairs around the same time.

"We got this." Messiah said.

"Ain't no we, I'm not in school and I was off today. If you get in trouble that's on you." She said laughing.

"Okay, but when my mama see that new sleeve."

"Keep your mouth shut." She said throwing a piece of pop tart at him.

He laughed.

"I'm just saying. Spring is coming and them hoodies gotta go." He said.

"I'm gonna tell her." She said.

"Yeah, okay." He said.

They heard the door open and heard feet running.

"My baby." Messiah said getting up when he saw Blue.

He picked her up and tossed her in the air as she laughed.

"I told you to stop doing that." Beyoncé said walking in. "Your wrist is still messed up."

"Ma, I told you I was my wrist was fine." He said. "Right Blue? I'm fine."
Blue just laid on his shoulder.

"Are y'all ready to go?" She asked.
Sydney turned off the TV and stood up.

"Yeah, let's go."

They followed Beyoncé to the truck. Messiah buckled Blue in the seat and got in while Sydney got in the front. Beyoncé backed out the drive way and drove off.

"I gotta go to the studio after this." Beyoncé said. "But we won't be there long."

"But if I didn't have to go to school you could stay all night." Messiah said.

"We're not doing this GED thing again."

"But Syd got to take it."

"Syd is special." Beyoncé said.
