I woke up and the bright rays of the sun caused me to squint. There was a hazy figure leaning above me, holding something in their hand. I screamed and shuffled up, I grabbed my dagger and held it to their throat. "Who are you?"
"Calm yourself, Annabeth. It is an old friend," they said softly. My vision cleared and the hazy figure came into focus. I narrowed my eyes and got to my feet. With soft hands, the woman took the knife from my hands and threw it down the hill.
"Hey," I mumbled, "that was a very special dagger." I stumbled forward into the woman, knocking her a few steps back. I clutched my head and groaned.
"Relax, child," the woman said, "the spell will wear off soon."
I glanced up at her, suddenly wary. Spells were never good. I saw a spade lying on the ground next to my feet and before the lady could do anything about it I swooped down, picked it up and swung.
It hit the infuriating, cow-headed goddess in the face.
