 The 6th teen up.
Chapter 16.

Megalyn held Aquatin as he spoke of his position being a Watcher.

She looked him over.  He had the smallest brown eyes of any mermaid she had seen.  His hair was dark but who doesn't have dark hair under water.

Aquatin had an evil face but for some reason when he would smile he'd look half way decent.  He talked with his hands alot.

He still would come back to Megalyn's hands to comfort her.

How could a Watcher be so caring when his main job is to look out for humans and remember them?  Aquatin would have to report Megalyn and any other human that even came close to the Ocean Towers followed by what the King of the Ocean would want done.

Megalyn wondered if Mikekell was the only human here.  She knew there was others.

'They must be gone.  Why is Mikekell still not gone?'  She asked herself.

Her attention was back on Aquatin who was still talking.  He had the tail color same as his skin tone, which was a cross from yellow to orange but under water it fits just right.

Megalyn hasn't been this close to a mermaid in a very long time.

When she was,  it wasn't under water.  Definitely not wearing a breathing device.  Aquatin seemed more nervous now than Megalyn.  She felt it was what he wanted.

"It shouldn't be long now.  I hope I didn't take time away from you."  Aquatin apologized.

Megalyn patted his arm which she seemed to be interested in.  He had many markings.  She felt them slowly, not noticing Aquatin was looking at her the whole time.  Megalyn wanted to know where they came from.  The scars began from his neck down to his hands.  His chest was marked with writing.  Megalyn could not read it.  The marks appeared to always be there.

Aquatin took Megalyn's hand.

"I was born with these.  So I had to be a Watcher.  It was what I was made for."  He told her.

Megalyn touched his other markings.  The scars on his arm.

"Those I was not born with."  He exhaled.  "I was not watching my post.  I wanted to see how it felt to see this ocean.  I barely get to leave.  I spent all my life there."  He pointed to the direction of his post.

Megalyn felt for him.  She wanted to tell him something comforting so she hugged his arm.

Aquatin laughed.  "It's okay.  I knew I was going to be in trouble, just like for this but this is much worse."  He said losing his friendly smile.

Megalyn became worried for him.  He did this because of her.  She possibly put his life in danger.

"I hope we can help your friend.  Is he your - your human?"

Megalyn tried to smile but the breathing device would not even let her do that.  She raised her hand to her mouth in slight pain.  She shook her head no.

"You did all this for a man you do not give your heart to?  Does any man carry your heart?"  He asked.

Megalyn shook her head no again.

"That is surprising to me.  Maybe I am saying this for other reasons I do not know but you seem to look and behave like some one that should be sharing a heart.  You're a beautiful human.  I haven't seen many of my own kind or humans.  I guess that is why I find you to be an amazing being.  I am sorry.  That is disgusting.  I should not have spoken to you like this."  Aquatin let go of her hand.
