Chapter 02

Taylor

One moment I was sitting on the side of my pool, swishing my feet in the water with my best friend Jenny, and the next I was jumping back in alarm as a boy fell out of the sky and into the water of my pool.

Yes, you heard what I said. A boy fell from the sky. I'm not joking, or even exaggerating.

Seriously.

One moment he wasn't there, the next he was.

"What the-" I heard Jenny's voice say as she and I were instantly soaked by the splash from the boy.

I stared at him with an even mixture of shock and horror. "I have no idea," I told her honestly.

Soon he came spluttering up to the surface if my pool, panting like a dog.

By the words that came about of his mouth, I could tell he didn't have any more of an idea about what was happening than I did.

"What the-" he panted, "heck?"

Jenny and I stared at him as he pulled his sopping wet body out of the water.

"Who are you?" He demanded, attempting today himself off a little bit.

"I'm Taylor Smith," I told him.

"Jenny Walden," Jenny replied. The boy's eyes widened as he heard Jenny say her name.

"W-Walden? Really?" He questioned,

"Yeah..." Jenny said awkwardly. "Do I know you?"

"Uh, you just, well," he stumbled. "Never mind. Where am I?"

"La Crosse, Wisconsin," I answered. He looked relieved at my response.

"Oh, really? Well, I'd better go, then. My parents are probably waiting for me." With that he ran from my yard, in baggy striped shorts, and started down the road.

"What's wrong with him?" Jenny said as we watched the strange guy sprint down the street.

"Again, I have no idea. But I'm gonna go see if he needs any help. You in?"

"Nah. He creeps me lit."

"Whatever," I said, pulling some on some denim shorts over my bikini. After slipping on my sandals, I took off down the road in pursuit of the stranger. Thankfully, he wasn't a real fast runner and I caught up to him fairly quickly.

"Do you need help?" This time I was the one panting.

"I'm fine," he said without even looking at me.

"You don't seem fine," I pointed out.

He stopped and sighed. "I'm running down the middle of the street, soaking wet in my Evening Clothes. Do you think I'm fine?"

"Well, no, that's my point... And what are evening clothes?" I questioned.

"'What are evening clothes?!' Seriously? What year are you from?!" He shouted at me angrily.

"2013, thank you very much!" I snapped back.

At that statement his eyes widened to the size of tennis balls.

"Seriously?"

"Yeah..."

"You're honestly not joking?"

"No, why would I be?"

"It can't be... 2013."

Before I had the chance to ask him why it couldn't be the year it was, he turned around and started sprinting down the street again. I followed behind him, keeping a close eye in this messed up guy. Jenny was right: what was wrong with him?

He ran until we reached a store with a with a newspaper stand outside. He looked down, yanked one out, and stared at the date.

"Oh my god," He said, clearly shocked.

"What's wrong?" I demanded. Why wouldn't he tell me anything?

"Nothing," he said quickly. That definitely meant something was up. Not that he was ever going to tell me what that something was, of course.

"Sure," I said sarcastically. "Nothing wrong at all."

He let out an exasperated sigh. "I don't need your help, alright?"

"Whatever you say," I muttered, "You know where my house is if you ever need me." I smiled shyly at him as I turned around and walked back towards my house and Jenny.
