At work the next day, Laurel is forced to put aside her romantic issues (or forced romance, at that) and focus on her cases for Annalise Keating. But, luckily for her, Michaela Pratt is there to ask all about her relationships, driving her focus far away from the cases.
"So," Michaela begins when the two of them are alone and looking through the case file, "how's everything?"
"What?" Laurel asks. "What is 'everything'?"
"You know, the thing you've got going on with Frank, and then your engagement to the suitor guy," Michaela clarifies.
"Shh," Laurel quiets her down. "Kan, the guy my parents set me up with, went out for dinner. I mean, it was all right, but nothing exciting. He's a good guy, though. That's why I felt bad when I went over to Frank's apartment after and did some not-so-good things."
"Scandy," Michaela jokes. "What's up with you two?"
"We're making progress... with sex," Laurel laughs. "It's fun being with him, if I even am with him. We did some stuff you probably don't wanna hear about, so I'll spare you the details. I'm just worried about how this is going to end because of Kan."
Michaela presses her lips together.
"What?" Laurel asks. "Michaela, what?"
"I don't know, it's just, Kan shows you that he wants to be with you. I'm not saying Frank doesn't, but what if all he wants is sex?" Michaela asks.
"He wouldn't do that..." Laurel begins.
Michaela gives her a look.
"Okay, maybe he would to other girls, but not to me," Laurel shakes her head.
"Honestly, have you guys done anything remotely non-sexual since you got together?" Michaela questions.
"We talk all the time!" Laurel answers. "We've only been 'together' or whatever for like, two days. Right before we did, he took me out for tacos. Doesn't sound so sexual to me."
"I'm sure you're right, but I don't want to see you get hurt. So, you better make sure he's serious about this, or call it quits," Michaela warns her.
--
"Hey," Frank greets her after work, pressing a kiss to her cheek. "So, I can either drop you to your place, or you could come over again..." He smirks at her.
Laurel bites her lip. Everything Michaela said is haunting her. Obviously, she likes Frank, but she needs to know if he likes her, too, or just wants to keep hooking up in their 'relationship'.
"Can't we do something fun?" Laurel asks, tugging at his sleeve. "We're always cramped up in your apartment! Let's go out tonight."
"I like it very much when I'm with you in that tiny apartment," he chuckles, and starts kissing her neck.
"No," she stops him, and swats his head away from her. "All we do is have sex!"
"Sex is pretty fun," he grins.
"Frank, I know that's exactly what you used to do with the other girls you've been with before me, but I am not going to stand here and be your sex toy that you can just call over whenever you want!" Laurel angrily says. "I like you, okay? I can't believe I said it out loud like that, but I do. And if you don't want the same thing as me, then-"
"Hey," he cuts her off, cupping her cheek. "It's not like that. How could you think I'm usin' you for sex?"
"Because that's all we do!" Laurel argues.
Frank presses his lips together
"Laurel, I'm sorry," he sighs. "I didn't realize how it looked." He kisses her chastely. "Yeah, I've done that sorta thing with other girls in my past, but I'd never do it to you."
Laurel feels some relief, but she's still worried.
"I'm crazy about you," he continues, taking her hand. "To be honest, the sex stuff is all I really know how to do in a relationship... I'm no good at planning dates and goin' out. I wish I could be that guy for you, but I suck," he laughs.
"If I wanted that type of guy, I wouldn't be with you," Laurel reminds him. She smiles and says, "Lucky for you, I love planning this kind of thing! So, I'll do all the work. I just want you to come with me."
He smiles at her, and follows her into his car. She takes the wheel this time.
"A dinner date?" he laughs, shaking his head as he gets out of the car. "How cliché, Laurel."
"Shut up, it's going to be delicious," she tells him. "I picked a great restaurant."
"It looks expensive as hell," Frank furrows his eyebrows.
"I've got the money handled," she says, squeezing his hand. "Don't worry."
"You're gonna make me the cheap guy that doesn't pay for his date?" he folds his arms. "I'm not broke, babe. I can pay for the dinner."
"No, it's fine. You shouldn't have to pay for a dinner that I forced you to come to," Laurel tells him.
"Laurel, I can pay," he insists. "If I didn't want to be here, I wouldn't be."
She smiles at him and squeezes his hand.
"I'm sorry for doubting you," she says, looking over into his eyes.
He smiles at her sincerely.
"I didn't really give you much of a reason to believe in me, did I?" he shrugs his shoulders. "No hard feelings, no worries. We're gonna do this right from here on out."
He leans closer to her and pecks her lips. She pulls back before it can get heated at all.
"This is like a first date. I don't sleep with guys on the first date," she teases.
"I think we've already moved past the first date stage, then..." he chuckles.
"Hey! Technically, this is our first official date," she says.
"Oh, come on. My taco thing wasn't good enough for you?" he grins as they walk into the restaurant together.
