It was by far the most uncomfortable morning for all five initiates. They boys were getting along fine, but the girls were all painfully shy, and thats never helpful when your stuck getting ready together in a small room. After getting cleaned up the group all ate together and then went to wait for "faze 2," not that anyone knew what that was. Finally Kay'lin broke the silence by walking over to Adam. No one knew if it was okay for a girl to sit in the boy's waiting area, but then again, no one was stopping her. "Adam." Kay'lin greeted him.
"Kay." Adam replied with an awkward half-bow. They began to talk about all the things faze two would be. It started out with the main possibilities of another test, or more initiates. However as they kept talking Liam joined in, and so did Petal, who ended up being quite a laugh. There last few ideas became extremely hysterical and illogical, and Abigail turned to face Tory, who was rolling her eyes. "Vi- Tory!" Abigail exclaimed, catching herself at the last moment.
"What?" Fired Tory, who shot her a warning glance.
"I wanted to talk about what I wanted to talk about last night... What is Kay'lin's job? Why won't she tell me?" Abigail wondered. In return, Tory rolled her eyes again, and spat at the floor. They sat in silence for another minute until Tory replied.
"Don't think your the only one she hasn't told." Tory snapped. "Maybe it embarrasses her yeah? Maybe she isn't quite ready. MAYBE you need to mind your own business!" Tory finished, nearly screaming. Abigail nodded and walked over to the boys section. She really wanted Kay'lin to trust her. She sat there and laughed with them, and eventually Tory came too. They all sat together until a man came in. And he brought Faze 2.
"Who are they?" Asked a dazed looking Liam. Petal laughed, again the sound of tiny bells. "Not another test. Or potions that will let us shot lasers from our eyes!" She glanced at Liam who blushed and stared at his feet. The tall man laughed. "I am Commander Hecs. You kids aught to remember that." He chuckled. "This is faze 2." He gestured to the two boys beside him. They were normal. Not genetic freaks at all. And they were very pleasant to look at. After that thought crossed her mind Abigail shook her head and jumped back a step. Now everyone would probably think she was crazy, but she didn't care. Since when was she one of those girls? Commander Hecs started up again. "You probably noticed their genetically normal. That's because we needed someone to keep you all from getting big heads. We needed someone humble.. So after a series of tests we chose these two. Chase, undersecretary." A tall boy with short black hair smiled and bowed. "And this is Keith. Vice president." Keith, a tall thin boy with tousled blonde hair and icy blue eyes gave the group a two fingered salute. It would've been a nice sign of respect had he not burst into a fit of hysterical laughter afterwards. Commander Hecs went on explaining how Chase would work with Petal and Keith with Abigail. After his speech the two girls shot each other horrified looks and attempted to speak. Petal began first.
"I don't need him. You made me so I could do everything alone. EVERYTHING! I don't need some... Some idiot slowing me down. So send him home before I do something stupid and you have to sedate me!" She shrieked. Hecs smiled sympathetically.
"Thats why you meed him child. To slow you down. To humble you. Get to work, I have a lot of trust work outs for you." The commander then pushed Chase and Petal into a room with a stack of at least four hundred papers. Abigail opened her mouth to voice her argument. Then closed it. She opened it again and closed it again. Then it began to flap as if she was screaming. But nothing came out. Hecs handed her a larger stack of trust exercises and ushered herself and Keith into another, smaller room. The door slammed shut and Keith cracked up again. "You really don't want me around do ya Abs." He said, and sense her worded it like a question, Abigail didn't feel the need to answer. He grinned and began to read the first paper. Abigail flinched in surprise as he began to jump around and clap his hands.
"We get to share three secrets Abs! Isn't that wonderful!" He squealed. It most certainly was not. Abigail dreaded learning more about the boy, and dreaded even more for him ti know about her. But she tried to smile and squeaked, "Really excited. Its just peachy." Astonishingly, Keith softened at her tone.
"Its all right. I don't really want to tell you all my private stuff. Hey if this one is really good, we can skip the next one alright?" Abigail still wasn't keen on agreeing, but when he gently squeezed her hand she let down her walls a little. Maybe trusting Keith wasn't the dumbest thing she had ever done.
