Keith and Abigail sat on to uncomfortable wooden stools, not speaking. It had been that way for at least five minutes, and Abigail was not keen on changing that. Keith knew they would be in trouble if they hadn't progressed at all though, and spoke up. "Secret time?" He asked, and Abigail stared at her feet in silence. "Okay... I can go first." He added, and then continued, "I never went to school. I would just ditch. I never actually showed up." Abigail smiled and decided to play along. She thought long and hard. It needed to be something simple... Bit not to simple.
"Your the fourth guy I ever met, not counting Commander Hecs." She muttered. When she finished, Keith's eyebrows shot up and his mouth gaped open. He then went back into deep thought.
"Here's a big one... I cheated on the test to come here." Abigail gaped at him. Questions rushed through her head.
"How... Why?" She finally asked him. "It can count as your third secret."
He smirked. "I wanted to get away from my parents... We don't really have the closest bond. Can you imagine me being one of the two most modest guys in America?" He asked. "I just acted like a model citizen... I guess it paid off, since I met you." He added, then blushed. Abigail blushed two, not sure what to say. Then Keith laughed. It was like the sound of rustling leaves, low and quiet and beautiful. Abigail knew she should stop staring at him, and forced her eyes to her feet.  "I. Win." Keith whooped.
Abigail shot him a look of confusion. "Its not a competition though. You don't 'win or lose.' You didn't win." She explained. Keith shook his head sadly.
"You keep telling yourself that." He patted her back, then smiled. "You'll only come out loosing." He was smirking by then.  Abigail actually laughed, and it rang out like chirping birds.
"My turn. I don't want to know who my parents are... If I have any." She squeaked. Keith looked surprised. He sat their and stared at her like he was trying to stare through her. Abigail began to squirm. Keith blinked, and Abigail decided to count his blinks. Fifty nine passed before he looked away, and another thirty six before he spoke.
"Why?" It was a simple word, yet had so much meaning.
"They let me be raised in a test tube, in solitude. They gave me up. I don't want to meet the people who abandoned me." She said, and it felt nice to let it out. She glanced at Keith, expecting to see him smirking, but he just nodded. He may have actually understood.
Abigail took a shaky breath and moved one to her last secret. "I've felt so... Alone all my life. But your the first person who seemed to make me feel less isolated and cut off." She finished and stood up to grad the next paper. Keith stood up too, and her hugged her. It was a friendly hug. And it was then that Abigail realized she did need Keith. He made her not want to be alone. She wanted to have friends.
"Give the others a chance Abs. I think you'll like them." He said. Abigail pulled away and began to read the next activity. She would do that, give the others a chance.
Activity number two
Talk to each other. Be nice Abigail.
Abigail smiled and showed the paper to Keith. "We already talked. I think we can skip it. But I do like the second part. Be nice Abigail!" He jeered and then began to run around the room, screaming like an Indian. She rolled her eyes and grabbed another paper.
For the rest of the day they did activity after activity. Abigail guided Keith around the room, only running him into walls a few times. She fell of a chair into his arms. And he caught her two of the three times. They cooked for each other, which was highly disastrous, and they even threw darts at each other.
When the door of their compartment swung open, they each had at least three darts sticking out of them, and part of Keith's hair was burnt. Across the hall Petal and her partner seemed fine, and they were very far ahead of Abigail and Keith. Petal looked like she wanted to laugh, and plug her nose at the odor coming from the other's room. Keith laughed and began to chase Abigail. She ran shrieking down a hallway, past the waiting room, and into the main room, where she disturbed all the other kids. Tory laughed a little, but Kay'lin and Adam both laughed hysterically. Kay'lin even started to cry. Abigail kept on running, and as she went by a couch, strong hands grabbed her waist and pitched her onto the sofa. She shrieked and Keith whooped, sitting beside her.
Liam smirked and asked, "Good trust thing?" With a suggestive quirk of his eyebrows. Abigail scrunched her nose in disgust and Keith laughed so hard he turned purple.
"No way! I'm scared to be in the same room as her now!" Keith gasped, gesturing to his hair.
Abigail poked him hard, and pretended to attack him. Keith shrieked like a toddler and leaped behind a chair, occupied by Tory, who was doubled over laughing.
"PLEASE! Don't hurt me. DON'T RUIN MY HAIR!" Keith shrilled. This time they all started laughing, even Petal and Whats-Its-Face who had just came in. They were finally all in a good place.
