The Vampire Queen

Chapter 5

Memories

"It is a shame you aren't accepting my offer to live an eternity," the man frowns, "instead you have chosen to become the next leader of your race. Such a waste." Mira struggle against the restraints but they tighten even more with the movement.
"Now, now. Don't get too excited about my genius idea." He bites his wrist and covers her mouth with it. She's forced to drink his blood, it burns going down. She bites him, hard. He yells out then looks down at his arm when he pulls it away. A rash forms quickly.
"You really are a fighter for a lioness," he smirks before Mira blacks out.

She awakens on the ground, free. Her throat burns and blood splatters her chest where her heart is. She knows she's in transition to be a vampire. The room is empty with the exception of herself. All she hears are yells, footsteps, metal against metal, and dripping of a liquid. The air smells metallic. Someone runs into her room.
"Meredith," the man sounds relieved. He pulls her up so she's on his lap facing him. His lips brush her's, Mira's hand cups his cheek. The slight touch still sends tingles through her arm. She lets out a relieved sigh before deepening the kiss.
"I was scared that I would lose you," he whispers. She lets herself get lost in the kiss. However she stops when her soulmate jerks away, "you bit me." Mira moves away. Before the man says anything, she's gone.

Fifteen years later...

"Go to the palace, take the job," her mom says sadly, "It's your destiny to become queen." When Mira came fifteen years earlier, she was pregnant with Meredith's brother. At first she was scared Mira would lose control, but it turns out the child helped the new hybrid.
"Mother, your readings never come true." She holds her mother's aging hands.
"This isn't one of my readings, child. It was your great grandmother's, she was the best in my line of witches. You will be queen Meredith, I'm certain." She smiles warmly at her daughter. Mira's mother died three months before she accepted the job to protect Prince James. Her brothers went off to their father's and she stayed in their cabin until she was picked up.
